| 101 | Judge Chidester is Laid to Final Rest Many Beautiful Floral Tributes are Laid on the Bier of Noted Richfield Citizen Funeral services for John F. Chidester were held in the Second ward chapel last Tuesday afternoon. The official and personnal friends of the Judge, who were expected from Salt Lake, were unable to be present as most of them were absent frome state on personal matters. However, telegrams of sympathy were received from Gov. Spry, Judge McCarty, members of the land board, and members of the state judiciary with whom decedent had labored. The services were in charge of Bishop Seegmiller, and the speakers were W.H. Seegmiller, J.A. Judd of St. George, Joseph E. Erickson,R.D. Young and H.N. Hayes. All paid eloquent tribute to Judge Chidester and pointed out his many sterling quties of mind and heart; his big, manly, generous nature, and his simplicity. Mr. Judd had travelled all the way from St. George to be in attendance at the funeral. He had known decedent as a boy, and had been his companion through boyhood and young manhood. Jos H. Erickson spoke for the members of the bar and presented resolutions of respect which had been adopted by the officers of the court and members of the bar of this district. R.D. Young delivered a message of condolence from the former land board associates of Judge Chidester, and also pointed out the humility he had found in decedent as his stake president. Judge Hayes, speaking for the judiciary of the neighboring county, all that loving hands could do to so from the members of the bar of Sanpete county. Mr. Hayes spoke of his association with the decedent, and paid eloquent tribute to Judge Cester's qualities. Pres. Seegmiller dealt with the doctrinal side of the hope of a resurrection which decedent had, ad also paid him high tribute. The musical numbers were in charge of G.M. Jones. The choir sang two numbers and Mrs. J.M. Peterson, John Hood and Mrs. Allie Clark sang solos of a consoling nature. The floral tributes were many and varied. Instead of the gloom of death usually depicted by drapings of black and white the stand was gracefully draped with cream colored drapings and a wealth of roses. The services were characterized by a chasteness in keeping with the simplicity of the life of decedent. The many friends of the family did The Reaper, some years since soften the blow that death gave them, and these friends paid tribute toe family and to Judge Chidester by their presence at this bier. | 102 | June Frances Hobbs Chamberlin, 82, passed away Sunday, July 26, 1998 in Bountiful, Utah. Born November 13, 1915, the daughter of Walter Lee and Mable May Gates Hobbs. Married Vernon Forest Chamberlin January 3, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Member of Bountiful 45th LDS Ward and Mt. Olympus Rebekah Lodge #50 Survived by her husband, Vernon; son, Richard L. (Margaret) Chamberlin, Salt Lake City; daughter, Frances June (Robert) Roswold, Pensacola, FL; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; also two brothed two sisters, James Hobbs, Murray; Robert Hobbs, Salt Lake City; Phyliss Peck, and Ruth Hobbs, both of Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by daughter, Betty Jane Potter, and ten brothers and six sisters.Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 30, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North 400 East, where friends may call Wednesday, July 29th, from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to service. | 103 | Kay married Beryl Elizabeth McGow on June 5, 1958 in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. Together, they returned to Provo in 1962 where Kay continued his education at BYU, graduating in 1964. Kay followed another dream by studying Interior DesignYU, making it his life's profession. He loved his work and so did his many clients. Kay, an active member of the LDS Church, served in all its organizations. Among his most cherished callings were those serving with Bishop Joe Nelson of the Orem 15th Ward and as a counselor to John Harris in a Branch Presidency at the MTC. He also enjoyed teaching Sunday School as well the High Priest Group, where his lessons always kept the old guys awake. Music was an essential part of Kay's life. He started with the School Boys' Band in Edmonton and later played with Wes Barry's band at BYU. From this experience he went on to form his own orchestra. Nothing made Kay happier than playing his baritone sax, pounding out boogie woogie on the piano, listening to jazz records or going to see Artie Shaw and Stan Kenton at the Terrace Ballroom in Salt Lake City. He also enjoyed music in the Church as he led the ward choir or the congregational singing. Together with Beryl, Kay realized his biggest dream in raising five beautiful children who brought much joy, laughter and happiness into his life. His greatest achievement was seeing his sons serve honorable missions and witnessing all five of his children marry in the temple. He will be sorely missed and we look forward to the day when we are together again. Kay is survived by his sweetheart of 50 years, Beryl; children Boyd (Patti), Lisa Chaffin (Chris), Clark (Michelle), Emilee DeMille (Brent), and Adam (Cheri); 18 grandchildren; and brothers Grant (Myrna), and Max (Diana). Preceded in deaths parents. The family expresses deep appreciation to Nic and Elsie of Harmony Hospice, Bob Chynoweth and Adam McCament and the many friends and neighbors who have shown such kindness during Kay's illness. | 104 | Keith James Worthen died peacefully on Nov. 14, 2006 at home. Keith was born on August 4, 1921 in Panguitch, Utah to Samuel A. and Alice Cameron Worthen. After graduation, he served in the Air Force for four years as a Flight Engineer durinld War II. He attended LDS Business College and the University of Utah. Keith married his sweetheart, Lorraine Douglas, on June 29, 1946. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on January 21, 1976. He was employed by the Coca-Cola Co. of Salt Lake for 35 years, serving in various positions including Vice President. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission with his wife in the Granite Park area. Keith loved the outdoors and had a great appreciation for nature. He spent many hours learning about and raising Japanese Maples. He was a man of many talents. He enjoyed cooking and had perfected the art of candy making. Survived by his children Brad and Wendie Worthen and their children Codi and Blake Schreck, Coleman and Caitlin; Kim and Jared Beck and their children Cameron and Audrey, Alisa and D. Barua, Stephen and Patrick; Jon and Susan Worthen and their children Miles, Rebecca, Brooke and Jamie; great-grandchildren, Grant and Claire Beck; brother David Vee Worthen of Panquitch, UT; sister Beth W. Nolf; and brother-in-law Eugene Darger. Preceded in death by his wife Lorraine D. Worthen; sisters Vera Worthen and Fay W. Darger; and brothers Arthur and Douglas Worthen. We love you Pops. | 105 | Kenneth (Coach) Raymond Hunt Morgan, Utah Kenneth Raymond "Coach" Hunt, 69 passed away at his home, surrounded by family, Jan. 27, 2008.He was born December 14, 1938 in Ogden, Utah, to Kenneth and Wanda Hunt. He grew up in Ogden and graduatom Ogden High School in 1957 where he was an all-state basketball and baseball player. After high school, he attended BYU on a baseball and basketball scholarship. Ken married Carol Nelson on February 6, 1959. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He signed a contract with the Cincinnati Reds where he played professional baseball for eight years. He was selected as the 1961 National League Rookie Pitcher of the Year. That same year the Reds won the National League Championship Pennant and he pitched in the fifth game of the 1961 World Series against the New York Yankees. In 2004, Ken felt honored to be inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame. Ken and Carol settled in Morgan where Ken taught English and coached at Morgan High School for 30 years, retiring in 2003. He sincerely loved teaching in the classroom, on the basketball court and on the baseball field where he believed that every student and player had the potential to succeed. Ken enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, spending time with his family and watching sports. He was a true basketball coach to the end, shouting at the Utah Jazz from bed while watching the game on television. He is survived by his mother, Wanda Hunt of Riverdale; wife, Carol, of Morgan; son Ken (Lisa) of Fruit Heights; daughter Jennifer (Todd) Peterson of Moab; son Adam (Michelle) of Morgan; brother Robert of Layton; brothers Kim and Blair of Ogden and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father. The family would like to thank Dr. James J. Milavetz and his staff at the Heart of Utah, the nursing staff on the 3rd and 4th floor of the Heart and Lung Center at the Intermountain Medical Center and IHC Hospice personnel. | 106 | Kyle Scott Willaford, 50, died early Wednesday morning, August 3, 2011 at his home in Bartlesville following an extended illness. Memorial services for Kyle will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Darryl Wootton and Rev. Josh Willaford officiating. Memorial services and cremation will be directed by the Stumuneral Home & Crematory. Honorary pallbearers will include Robert Peugh, Jason Cowan, Herb Cline, Rob Fouts, Chris Bullen and Jim Elliott. The Willaford family will receive guests for visitation at the Stumpff Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Dewey, Ave., Bartlesville, Oklahoma, 74 Kyle Scott Willaford was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on March 21, 1961 to James Edward and Lida Elaine (Bennett) Willaford. He grew up in Bartlesville and received his education in the Bartlesville schools and graduated from College Highol in 1979. He attended Oklahoma State University at Stillwater for one year and worked part-time as a disc jockey on KWON Radio in Bartlesville under his father, radio personality, Jim Ford. He joined the Bartlesville Police Department as a dispatcher and then became a police officer for the City of Dewey in 1984. He returned to the Bartlesville Police Department as a police officer in 1985 and retired as a lieutenant in 2007. Kyle married Janet Sue Jump at Fairfax, Oklahoma on August 8, 1982 and they have made their home in Bartlesville since that time. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and was an avid OSU Pokes fan. He was "Papa Kyle" to his grandchildren and many others. Kyle is survived by his wife, Jan Willaford of the home in Bartlesville, two sons, Joshua Willaford and his wife Tasha of Aurora, Ohio and Michael Willaford of Minneapolis, Minnesota, two daughters, Misty Repp and her husband John of Bartlee and Nikki Harrald and her husband Gary of Copan, Okla, and a special daughter, Becki Burpo and her husband Scott of Bartlesville, his mother, Elaine Willaford of Naperville, Illinois, two sisters, Robin Thomas and her husband Paul of Naperville, Illinois and Joellen Froehlich and her husband Phil of Colorado Springs, Colorado, six grandchildren, Julie Fitzsimmons and her husband Justin, Thomas Harrald, Colby Lee, Mary Harrald, Jake Harrald and Chandler Willaford, and a number of other special grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. | 107 | LaNae Ann Nelson left this life peacefully on March 14, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada surrounded by loved ones. LaNae was born November 9, 1934 in Salt Lake City to loving parents Bert and Hazel Fairless. She is survived by her husband Earn, br Doug, children Christine, Roger, Camille, Doug, Agnes, Eli, John, and Douglas, her grandchildren Jamie, Jennifer, Mary, Charlotte, Symone, RK, Richard, Jessica, Nykolas, Jasmyne, Jaclynne, Kasey, Chance, Kevin, Elisa and Todd, as well as five great-grandchildren. Lanae found true love in Earn, they were blessed to have 37 amazing years together, finding peace in compromise and undying love. She will always be his best friend. LaNae worked hard to provide for and love her children even when times were rough. LaNae was a strong woman whose spirit and love were much bigger than her 100-pound frame. | 109 | Lea Hacking Goodman passed away July 22, 2002 at the Ashley Valley Medical Center due to complications of diabetes and congestive heart failure. Lea was born October 12, 1925. The daughter of Milt and Mary Allen Hacking. She had a great fondness for the mountains and fishing and also her special cat. Lea served as a girl scout leader and was on the Maeser Fairview Cemetery Board. Ss truly loved by everyone who knew her. | 110 | Lee Clark Burton, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 2, 1999 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 9, 1923 to Thomas Hyrum and Hannah May Pexton Burton in Nephi, Utah. While in high school, he became an accomplished clarinet player and developed a love for jazz music that he enjoyed his entire life. He graduated frob High School and served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He received a B.S. degree from Utah State University and a M.A. degree from the University of Utah. He worked for the public school system for 33 years as a teacher, counselor, vice principal and principal. He affiliated with Phi Delta Kappa, Kearns Kiwanis Club and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.Lee married Mildred Jones on June 11, 1949 and they were planning to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the time of his death. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1965. He was an active high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving for many years as sunday school secretary, financial clerk, high priest group leadership and the last 27 years as ward clerk. He was an avid woodworker, gardener and fisherman and spent many of his retirement years building and enjoying his cabin with his family. He loved his children and grandchildren and always supported them in their activities even attending and sitting through entire dance recitals. The homes of all his children are filled with finely crafted furniture that exemplify his patience and perseverance with sandpaper. He is survived by his wife; sons: Steven (Sandra) Burton (West Jordan), Lynn (Venna) Burton (Holladay); daughter,Kathleen (William) Richter (Bountiful); eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter (Sonja, Jonathan, Erin, Sheri, Brittney, Ryan, Katelyn and Madison), and sisters: Florence B. | 111 | Leona Shirlene Hyke (nee Snow) made her way home to heaven August 13, 2009, in St. George, Utah. Shirlene was born March 19, 1940 to Lonnie and Dorothy Snow in Caldwell, Idaho. She was raised in Caldwell and married Eldon Hendry in 1960. Thter divorced in 1976. She moved to the Portland, Oregon area in 1978. She then moved to Vancouver in 1987. She was an office manager for several companies in the area. Shirlene was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and frequented the temple. She recently traveled to Mexico for Christmas 2008 before her health declined due to breast cancer. Shirlene is preceded in death by her parents, her son Brian, and her brother Dennis. She is survived by her daughter Michelle Gonzalez of Portland, Oregon, son Devon Hendry of Portland, Oregon, sisters Elzana Hogmire of Caldwell, Idaho andna Corder of St.George, Utah, several aunts and uncles, and 11 grandchildren. Funeral Services are being held in St. George, Utah Monday August 17, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Red Cliffs 4th Ward Chapel 1155 North 1400 West. | 112 | Lillian DeLand, 95, left this life December 5, 2003 to join her husband, daughter, and parents whom she has missed so much the past few years. She was born November 11, 1908 in Jane, Missouri. She married George L. DeLand July 28, 1928 in Long Beach, California. They were sealed in the Oakland LDS Temple in 1979. They raised four children. She has lived in Missouri, California, O, and Utah. She has lived in St. Joseph Villa for the past 20 months where she received loving and kind care. She joined the LDS church in 1933 and served for 60 years in many callings. She was a talented and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Arlene Vial; her parents; and siblings. She is survived by her children, Richard (Carol) DeLand, West Jordan, DeOnne (Louie) Grimmer, Salem, Oregon, George (Virginia) DeLand, Yorba Lindaifornia; 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. | 113 | Lillis Miles Reynolds, 95 passed away peacefully at home with family at her side on November 18, 2002. She was born March 20, 1907 in Panquitch Utah, to Henry Worthen and Laura Cameron. She worked for Sears and Roebuck for 23 years. She Married Lewis Miles in the Salt Lake Temple and has two daughters, Laura Fae Snowball and Arlene Kartchner (Deceased). She married Allen Altchuler in the Salt Lake Temple, he passed away five years later. She married Tracy Reynolds in the Salt Lake Temple. She called Tracey "The love of her life", now deceased. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she was a "faithful member." She had many travels in her life to other countries, and was very close to her family. She had courage and strength throughout her life. She is survived by daughter Laura Fae Snowball, grandkids Dan Wardle, Salt Lake; Kandace (Eliot) Breding, Magna, Jaylene Brunson, West Valley City; Scott (Carolyn) Katsillas, Sandy; Steven Katsillas, Kanab; and many great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids. Preceded in death by daughter Arlene Kartchner and all three husbands, brothers and sisters. The story was told at her funeral how when she was younger about 10 or so, she accidentally shot a gun it went thru her one finger, leaving a scar for life, and shot her older sister in the foot. Her sister was holding her baby at the tit he baby was unharmed. They had a son Jeremy Michael Cooper born July 22,1973s marriage terminated in divorce. Lisa married Richard Michael Vigor, July 24, 1980. She died October 13, 1980 from complication while carrying their unborn child. | 115 | Lloyd Eugene DeLand, 88, of Rogue River, Oregon, formerly of Murray, Utah died Monday, August 7, 1995 of natural causes at Providence Hospital, Medford, Oregon. Born July 22, 1907, in Magna, Utah, son of Royal B. and Ruby Worthen DeLand. Married Vera Ferguson, November 1934. Divorced after 50 years. Married Edith Theakson, August 1985.Survivors: wife, Edith; brothers, Royal and George, Rogue River,on; stepson, Harry Theakson, Santa Ana, Calif. Local residents, Gae Lyn DeLand, niece; Loni, Gary, and Richard DeLand, Eugene, Richard and Donald Penman, nephews; Wilma DeLand, sister-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews residing throughout the western states. Shine was preceded in death by seven other brothers and sisters including Walt DeLand, former U of U Head Athletic Trainer. Shine was Murray City Chief of Police for 19 years, retiring in 1966. He served three years as a Salt Lake County Deputy Sheriff. As chief, Shine received national acclaim for his crime prevention program with youth. His creation, the Boysirls Club was used as a national model by the National Peace Officers Assoc. In his youth Shine was a star basketball and baseball player and coach. | 117 | Lois Hacking Gray, age 83, of Vernal, Utah, died after a valiant battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully among family and the many friends she had made at the Uintah Care Center. She was born January 26, 1927 to Milt and Mary Allen Hacking in Vernal, Utah. Lois married Robert Marcell Gray on June 24, 1950. Lois was known among her family and friends as "Mrs. Clean". Her favorite day of the week was laundry day. In 1974, she and Marcell bought the Ute Motel. She put her love for laundry and cleaning to good use. It may not have been the fancieut it was the cleanest motel in town. She and Marcell owned the motel for fifteen years and proudly did every task associated with the business. Another of her many loves was music. She had a player piano that she loved. It was also enjoyed by her children and grandchildren. Lois loved her husband of fifty seven years, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her extended family. She was so proud of all of them and their many accomplishments. She was a unique person. She had her own way of saying and doing things that was endearing to everyone she met. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. | 118 | Lorin Clive Hacking, 71, passed away July 31, 2001 at his home in Vernal. He was born Nov. 29, 1929 in Vernal, a son of Iowa Clive and Lucy Smith Hacking. He married his sweetheart, Iris Rae Swain on Feb. 4, 1948 in Salt Lake City. Lorin worked as a lineman for Utah Power and Light. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the time of his death, he was serving as 1st Counselor in the Glines Care Center Branch Presidency. Lorin was a member of the Jeep Posse for many years. He and his wife were counselors in the Indian Placement program. He was also an active part of the scouting organization. He and his wife established the Vernal Dry Pack Cannery. He has been a faithful temple worker since the temple opened. He was gentle and a very kind man. He will be missed and is loved by all. She was born April 12, 1926 in Panguitch to Jose and Eva Garcia they later moved to Tooele where sht to school and met her lifetime sweetheart James L. Wilcox, when he was stationed at Tooele Army Depot with the US Army. They were married Aug. 1, 1942 in Tooele. After Jim's military service they traveled to many parts of the U.S. working in the construction trade. Consequently their children were born throughout the United States. Later making their home in Tooele. Opal worked for years as a waitress while raising her family and later went to work for Tooele Army Depot in 1985 and retired in 1993. Opal loved being around her children and grandchildren and her computer, they were the joy in her life. | 122 | LYMAN Grant J. Whitey Walker, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at his home in Lyman after a long struggle with Lou Gehrigs Disease. Walker was born July 6, 1920, in Lyman, to Levi Orson and Amelia Jane Grow Walker. He married Dorothy Mae Angwin in Lawton, Okla., on July 31, 1943. She died on Feb. 22, 1994. Walker was raised on a ranch near Lyman where he was the ninth child of 16 brothers and sisters, one half-brother, one half-sister and three stepbrothers. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended then schools and lived in Lyman most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II serving from Sept. 18, 1942, to Nov. 9, 1945. While serving he received the Bronze Star Medal and World War II Victory Medal. After returning from the war, he settled his family in Lyman. He eventually started work for the town of Lyman as a fire chief, town marshal, town clerk and public works director. He served for 30 years retiring in 1985. He was Citizen of tar in 1986 and Citizen of the Century in 2000. Walkers pursuits included spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He was an avid rock hound. He is survived by his children, Diana and husband Linden Belnap of Washington Terrace, Utah, Susan and husband Larry Carsten of Spanaway, Wash., Kenneth and wife Shauna Walker, Gary, Terry, and Judy and husband Butch of Lyman; 12 grandchi; 30 great-grandchildren with three on the way; brothers, Dwight, Darrell, Claude and Clinton Walker; sisters, Theo Lamb, Merle Rees, Joan Stringer and Mathel Anderson; half-brother, Guild Walker; half-sister, Lorna Maxwell; and two stepbrothers, Bruce and Keith Warren. She married Stanley Nebeker Sept. 9, 1929, in Duchesne. He died April 25, 1983. Mabel was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved her family. She was always very concerned about all of her children and brothers and sisters and their families. She was an avid reader of historical books, especially those on the Natierican people. She enjoyed crocheting and making quilts. Even though her formal schooling was not long, she was a very educated and intelligent woman, and was coherent up until the time of her death. She was a member of the LDS Church. She grew up and was educated in Stone and other than a short time in Oregon and Utah had lived there all her life. Shried Walter Albert Scott on March 22, 1933 in the Logan LDS Temple. For many years Jiammia helped her husband on the farm, while also raising her family of seven children. Walter passed away on September 26, 1996. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served in various callings through the years. She preceded him in death December 10, 1972. He then married Lillian Richardson, July 2, 1973. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving a mission in the Eastern States under B.H. Roberts. He was also a counselor in the Bishopric of the Chevy Chase Ward of the Washington D.C. Stake. He was President of the District of Columbia Dental Society; President of the University Club of Washington D.C.; President of the Georgetown Alumni Club; and President of the Kiwanis Club of Washington D.C. He graduated in 1933 from Georgetown University Dental School.He was engaged in the practice of Oral Surgery in Washington D.C. for many years as a member of the firm of Doctors Mead, Lynch, Burton and Mead. He later established the first Dental Hospital in Salt Lake City. Beloved husband, devoted father, generous to a fault. He was a true friend to man whom he loved and lifted by his wit and wisdom. She married Arthur Loran Latimer April 28, 1937 in Pocatello, Idaho. He passed away March 3, 1998. She was educated in Utah and attended Idaho State University. She was employed by the Selective Service System during World War II. Worked in the Bannock County Assessor's Office for ten years. From 1957 until 1966 she worked in the Accountepartment at Idaho State University. She managed the Avis Car Rental Agency at the airport in Pocatello until retirement. She was a member of the LDS Church and served as dance director of the Pocatello Stake. She was a member of Rhythm Dance Club, Corresponding Secretary of Soroptimist Club of Pocatello and member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. At age 16 she performed in a floorshow at the Salt Air Pavilion in Salt Lake City. Survived by Son-in-law, James D. Mathews of Bountiful; grandchildren, Susan, Shellie Sauni, Steven, Shannon, Scot, and Sally; 26 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She married her sweetheart H. Mervyn James on June 22, 1956 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Marlene graduated from Granite High School and attended the University of Utah. She loved children and worked as a Title I Specialist in the Granite School District for thirty-two years. She was member of the LDS Church, holding positions in the Primary and Young Women's organizations. Marlene's main devotion was to her home and family. She enjoyed handcrafts, interior decorating, the family cabin, collecting stuffed animalstery movies, and celebrating holidays and birthdays with family. She loved dancing, watching airplanes flying overhead, going to Yellowstone, animals, games with family, and making yummy treats. Marlene is survived by her husband, one son and three daughters, Craig M. James, LuAnn Halliday, Terry Lynne Erickson (Craig), and Joycelyn Stapley. Marva was co-owner of Bud's Steak House in Vernal, a member of the Pink Ladies at Ashley Valley Medical Center, a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was a member of the Lurch. Marva enjoyed racing horses, reading and caring for others, especially older people in the neighborhood, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. | 130 | Mary E. Grow, 80, of Lebanon, died Friday, Dec. 19, at her home. A memorial service was held Dec. 22 at Southside Church of Christ in Lebanon. Huston-Jost Funeral Home handled the arrangements. She was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Rulo, Neb., the daughter of Willice S. and Ida (Grose) Rector. She lived in Nebraska until the family moved to Oregon when she was 13 years old. The family settled in Ashland, where she met her husband. On June 25, 1941, she married Phil Grow in Reno, Nev. The couple lived briefly in Washington but primarily lived in Ashland. She worked as a cook for 10 years at Omar's Steak House and later worked for Parson's Pine Products. Her husband died on Nov. 26, 1984. She moved to Lebanon on May 31, 1996, to be near her daughter. She was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Lebanon and a past member of the Christian Church of Ashland. Mrs. Grow is survived by daughters Phyllis Silver of Lebanon and Nancy Matteson of Hillsboro; son Robert Grow of Bothell, Wash.; sister Bernice Flagg of Ashland; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death to her Heavenly Home by her husband, Harold (Bus); brothers, Bob, Howard, Wes and Judd; sister, Edith; parents; grandson, Jeffrey and great-grandson, Joel. Shirley is survived by four children, Dennis (Lorraine), Chuck, Janice (Cyril Ward) and Bus (Lana); 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Shirley was born in St. George, Utah on Dec. 29, 1921 to Lila and Robert Louis Hinkson. She loved to reminisce about her years growing up. She lived in St. George, Utah as a child but most of her youth and adult life were lived in Manteca,. and Fallon, Nev. She left a piece of her heart everywhere she lived. | 132 | Max Grow Pitcher, born April 22, 1935 in Calgary, AB, Canada, to Mary Favorite Grow and Morgan Hinman Pitcher; peacefully passed away at his Alpine home with his family Wednesday, February 16, 2011 due to complications of a stroke. Max wan with an immense love of the outdoors. From his youth in Calgary and Edmonton where he was an avid skier and swimmer, to his last months when he enjoyed the outdoors from the comfort of his breezeway in Alpine, listening to Fort Creek, it was clear that the open air is where he felt most at home. From 1954-56, Max served as a missionary in the Australia Mission for the LDS Church, making many fond memories and dear life-long friends. His love for the earth was the force behind his chosen career in geology. He received a BS and MS in Geology from Brigham Young University. It was there that he met and fell in love with the beautiful Diana Nutter. They were married on February 12, 1960. Later that year, when Max returned from several months of field work in the Canadian Yukon, Diana didn't recognize him with his full beard and looking like a character out of a Jack London novel. Max continued his studies at Columbia University in New York, receiving a PhD in Paleontology in 1963. Max then began what would be 30-year career with Continental Oil Company (Conoco), taking the family first to Ponca City (OK), then Houston, Denver, and back to Houston. While at Conoco, Max quickly rose up the corporate ranks, with his intense commitment to hard work, scientific rigor, deep relationships and complete integrity. After serving as a field geologist, he took posts ranging from regional head to the highest levels of executive management. Max ended his career directing oil and gas exploration in countries like the Congo and Gabon in Africa, England, Scotland, Indonesia and the former Soviet Union. He fell in love with the remarkable culture and transformation of Russia, and eventually developed the Polar Lights gas field, the first Western venture in Russia in over 75 years. Max and Diana often traveled together, cementing life-long friendships around the world. In 1993, he and Diana retired to Alpine, Utah. They loved gatherings of family and friends, so Max made a lovely park at their home for summer barbecues, wedding receptions, fathers and sons outings, and any other excuse they could think of for getting people together. In '96 and '97, Max and Diana traveled by covered wagon from Nauvoo to the Salt Lake Valley, as part of the re-enactment of the pioneer trek of 150 years earlier. This was a highlight of Max's life; he was instrumental in organizing the trek and in creating its authentic camps. As they traveled across the plains, he would explain the geology, and Diana would paint the beautiful scenes. Many a weary fellow traveler would find refreshment in the bottomless donut barrel on the side of his wagon. The following year he organized a continuation of this trek from Salt Lake City to Cardston, Canada, to commemorate its settlement by his ancestors. It is surely a great reunion he is having with them now. Max cherished his beloved Bar DM ranch in Grand Lake, Colorado. For over 40 years, he and his family have gathered there for Christmas and summer "vacations" (bring your work gloves). Max was happiest there on a tractor or snowmobile before dawn. Perhaps his greatest satisfaction came when the third generation, his grandchildren, came to know and enjoy "the Place" as much as he and his children had over the years. Max was a treasured patriarch of our family. Dinner was often preceded by a little "preachin'" in which he would offer timely counsel or advice. He was a gospel scholar, and loved his study groups over the years. He served in many callings in the church; his favorite was home teacher. His parents and one brother, Kay Pitcher, preceded him in death. Another brother, Grant Pitcher, survives him. He is also survived by his wife Diana and his children Stephen (Mindy), Alpine; Shauna (Roger) Andersen, Alpine; Tom (Karine), Park City; Andi (Mark) Davis, Orem; Marcia (Kenton) Wride, Denver; 21 grandchildren; two great-grand-children; all of whom will forever benefit from the indelible mark he left on this world. | 133 | Melvin Barnes Scott 1912 ~ 2005 A much loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend died of cardiac disease January 13, 2005. He was born in Winder (Holladay), Utah September 24, 1912 to John Lawson and Minnie Oliver Scon August 1924, Mel, his parents, and three sisters moved from Holladay to Salt Lake City. Shortly after the move Mel's father died. Losing his father at the tender age of 12 had a deep and lasting impact on his life. Mel married Margaret (Peggy) Driscoll May 18, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed nearly 60 years together before Peggy, our bright and shining star, died January 15, 1993. Dad was privileged to meet Maralyn Holley and they married in the Salt Lake Temple May 8, 1999. Mel worked for many years as sales manager for Maycock Food Brokerage Co. He faithfully fulfilled various positions in the West 11th and 11th Wards (where he was a member for 81 years); and the Salt Lake Central Stake, ward clerk (1948-1960), bishop (1960-1966), high council (1966-1976), bishop (1977-1978), stake presidency (1978-1985) and stake president (1985-1988). Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Rulon and Easton; sisters, Fanny Ridges, Olive Bennett, and Luella Scott; and wife, Peggy. His wife, Maralyn; sons, Michael B. (Lynda), Murray, Steven J. (Carol), Holladay; stepchildren, Randall Beadleson, Los Angeles, CA, Sandra Weagraff (Patrick), Sacramento, CA, Brett Beadleson (Robin), Minnesota, Bart Beadleson (Marlene), Florida; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchil-dren; sister-in-law, Helen Frazier Scott; and many friends and fans survive him. Cork was born August 28, 1930 to Milton and Mary Allen Hacking in Vernal. He married Frances Rae Pehacek in, NV on May 26, 1953. He latter married DeNell Johnson February 28, 1998 in Vernal. Cork owned his own plumbing and heating business, drove Truck for Hatchco, then worked for BLM until his retirement. He served in the Korean War. Cork enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and driving his stock cars. He loved his family deeply and spent all his time with them. Family always came first with him. He was born May 31, 1925 in Wellington to Henry Grant and Nina Blanche Nielsen Hall. He served his country during WWII in. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He married his sweetheart, Beth Varney on August 25, 1945 in Compton, CA. Their marriage was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, "She's Still The One". Together they raised a family of five children on the farm in Pleasant Grove. For 40 years Jay worked in the powerhouse at Geneva Steel where he made many lifetime friends. He loved the simple things in nature, the beauty of Mt. Timpanogod the treasured time with family in the mountains. Jay loved music. He was always whistling a tune and had a song in his heart. Service in church callings was an important part of his life. He is survived by his wife of 60 years; five children: Douglas J. | 138 | Mrs. Almina Worthen Chidester,widow of the late Judge John F. Chidester, died suddenly at the family home here Tuesday evening at about 5 o'clock, after a short illness from which she seemingly had been recovering. Mrs. Chidester, or Aunt Allie, as she was know to most people, was a daughter of Samuel and Maria L. Grow Worthen and was born in New Harmony, Utah, October 6, 1864. When she was a child the family moved to St. George, and in 1875 moved touitch. There she met John F. Chidester and married him in the St. George temple March 4, 1885. Eleven children were born to them, two of whom preceded her in death. She was a faithful member of the L.D.S. church. She was a nurse and gave her services readily at any time to help those in sickness or trouble. Besides rearing her own children, she was a mother to four step-children. The Chidesters made their home at Panguitch until 1905, when the family moved to Richfield. Mrs. Chidester's husband died here on July 7, 1917. Mrs. Chidester served as a Relief society teacher in Panguitch and in Richfield. Surviving are five sons and four daughters, Samuel H. Chidester of Bicknell, Arnon A. Chidester of Richfield, Renton R. Chidester of Monitor, Washington, John Denzel Chidester of Richfield, Alton P. | 140 | Myrle Walker Rees, age 93, passed away on September 22, 2008 in Payson, Utah. She was born May 10, 1915 in a log cabin in Lyman, Wyoming to Levi Orsen and Amelia Jane Grow Walker. She married Dudley Thomas Rees on July 22, 1933. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on October 17, 1934. They had fouldren, Thomas Walker (Lucile) Rees, Bebe Jane (Glade) Olsen, Merlyn (Ned) Wright, and Frances Prather. She was an accomplished quilter, seamstress, and crocheter. She was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings. She served a mission in California and the Ogden Temple. She worked for the State of Utah and as a FDA meat inspector. She is survived by her children, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grand-children, and seven great-great- grandchildren; brothers Dwight, Darrell, Claude, Clinton, Guild, and step-brother Weston; sisters Joan, Mathel, and Lorna. | 141 | Myron Hacking Dies In Salt Lake On Wednesday, October 23. Myron Hacking, is another victim to the influenza contagion. He died Wednesday morning in a Salt Lake Hospital. This news comes as somewhat of a shock to many friends of the young man, who reside in all parts of the county. He left the last part of Setember with a shipment of cattle, bound for Omaha. It was not until he was on his way home that he felt ill. Upon his arriving in Salt Lake, he told his companions that he wasn't feeling well, but never once compd of being seriously ill. On Tuesday evening he remarked to a friend, who advised that he secure a physician, that he would be all right the next morning, as he had but a little cold. C. W. Showalter, who was with the party from Omaha, upon learning that Myron was sick, came to his room in the hotel. He immediately made arrangements for the young man to be taken to a hospital. Late Tuesday evening he lapsed into unconsciousness, and Dr. Warren Colton, who was the attending physician, worked steadily three hours in an effort to revive him, but without avail. Death came a few hours later. Myron Hacking was 21 years old last June. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Hacking he leaves a young widow and a 19 month-old baby boy. He was born in Vernal, attending the district school and the Uintah Academy. He married Nelliep, of Maeser. He was a young man who was much respected in his ward and community, and one who was always known to do what was asked of him, always being ready to lend a helping hand. He was devoted to his wife and as a boy at home always was very considerate of his parents. Expressions of sympathy are extended to his grief-stricken wife and parents. It was but a week ago that his mother laid away her brother, Alfred Hall, who died of the same disease. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. He was born April 16, 1931 in Panguitch, Utah, a son of Charles Grow and Sara Lena Neilson Worthen. He was the third of five children. He married Melvelene Sparks on March 16, 1950 in Granger, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on January 20, 1987. Earlin was the most outstanding man, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. | 143 | Nelda Elizabeth Johnson Christensen, 85, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Heritage Park Care Center of natural causes. Mom was a survivor of breast cancer four different times. She was born August 20, 1925 in Vernal, Utah to Quince and Chloe Hall Johnson. On July 24, 1942, Nelda married Gale Leonard Christensen in Malad, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved serving in the MIA and serving in various other callings. Nelda worked for the IRS as a tax examiner. Mom's will to live life was her greatest talent. She loved to cook for her family and enjoyed the Deep Creek Cattle Ranch. Mom loved her children and was always willing to teach them new things. She loved camping, and the outdoors. She loveling and there was never a bowling pin that Mom could not knock down. Nelda is survived by her husband, Gale; a son, Randall, a daughter, Cathleen (Lynn) Taylor, six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Ralph (Ardis), Dean (Clifta), Orson, Larry (Judy), Loyal (Earlene), and a sister, Ivy. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mable and Stella, and a brother, Eldon. | 145 | Nolan Slaugh Hacking passed away on Sept. 2, 2008 in Dallas, Texas. Nolan was born on March 3, 1942, the second son of J. Gordon Hacking and Mary Olive Slaugh Hacking. He was born in his grandmother Alien's home in Maeser. He received his schooling in western Colorado and also at Vernal. He graduated from Uintah High School and later attended Utah State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force and then graduated from San Angelo State University with a degn journalism. He spent his working career employed at various newspapers in Louisiana, Texas, Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Since his retirement he had resided at Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his four siblings, John, Susan H. Hayden, Dan, and Kathy H. She was born March 1, 1916 to Ivy Aubra and Mary Luella Grow Hallmark in Cove, Oregon. She married William Lester Hawkins on May 27, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; he preceded her in death. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, and mother. She found joy in caring for others throughout her entire life. Norma also enjoyed going to the temple. May she rest in peace and have everlasting happiness. | 147 | OGDEN - Melba Georgina Roylance Morriss, 93, died Sunday, April 14, 2002 at a local care center. She was born April 1, 1909 in Pleasant View, a daughter of Alma and Ada P. Pickford Roylance. On January 9, 1929, Melba married Clarence LeRoy Morriss in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Clarence preceded her in death on November 4, 1992. She was reared and educated in the Ogden area graduating from Weber High School. As a member of the Lorin Farr 5th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Melba served as primary President for 20 years and also as a Visiting Teacher. She worked as a seamstress for Intermountain Knitting Mills and for W. T. Grant Company as a stock clerk. Melba's hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing and family history research. She had a keen sense of humor throughout her life. Surviving are one son and two daughters, Duane (Faye) Morriss, Shirley Jacobs, and Betty (Dennis) McMurdie, all of Ogden; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Kent was born May 23, 1931 in Salt Lake City, UT to Leland Paul and Mona La-Vica Haacke. He married Sandra K Grow in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Feb 23, 1962. They later divorced in 1992. Kent was an active member of the LDS Church. He servedS mission in the North Central States, covering Minnesota and Manitoba, Canada. Kent joined the Utah National Guard and later the Idaho National Guard as a fighter pilot, he retired from the guard as a Major. While still a member of the Guard, he became a pilot for West Coast Airlines, and later moved his family overseas to Tokyo when he became a pilot for World Airways. While in Tokyo, he became a Captain for Japan Airlines flying 747s. Kent always considered himself very lucky to have a job doing something he loved so much. He retired as a pilot after 21 years of flying in the fall of 1988. He is survived by his children, John, Novi, MI, Tawnya, Kirksville, MI, James, Anchorage, AK, Dan, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Shawn, Boise, ID; three grandchildren, Jordan, Brittany, Taylor; and three brothers, Verl, Clyde, Lani. Services will be under the direction of the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home Tuesday Oct 24, 2000, 11 a.m., at the Suncrest LDS 2nd Ward Building, 130 N. 400 W. (Orem). | 149 | Our beloved Delbert Wayne Potter, born Sept. 24, 1934, the youngest son of John Lewis and Viola Mary Smith Potter, passed away Sept. 19, 2001 at his home in Sandy surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a strong testimony and lived the teachings of Our Lord to love one another. Del had a great love of life and the people he shared it with. He was always willo lend a helping hand and made many lasting friends along the way. His hobby as a ham radio operator and C B buddy was instrumental in expanding his friendships world wide. Del worked for Utah Power as a mechanic and truck driver for 35 years before retiring. At a young age he married his childhood sweetheart, Betty Jane Chamberlin. This union was blessed with two daughters, Charmaine Penny and Colleen (Paul) Nesi. He smilingly said they all grew up together. After Betty's passing, Del married hst friend, Frances Jenkins Sharp. This brought into his life two more daughters, Ruth Ann Tallon and Linda (Rand) Andrus, and three sons, Stephen (Connie) Sharp, Jay (Libby) Sharp, and Dennis (Becky) Sharp. They were never yours and mine, but ours and he strongly encouraged us to stay together as a family. In addition to his wife, Frances, and their children, Del is survived by a brother, Gerald (Jan) Potter; sister, Karen (Phil) Marsh; sisters-in-law, Betty Lou (Gene) Potter; Elizabeth (Jay) Potter; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene and Jay. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 24, 2001, at 12 Noon in the Park Ward, 1050 East Galena Drive, Sandy. | 150 | Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Franklin LaMar Maddy, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 1999 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a valiant battle with cancer. LaMar was born June, 18, 1933 in Magna, Utah, the oldest of three sons born to Frank Earl and Mildred Lillian Henline Maddy. He married his sweetheart, Monta Rose, for time and all eternity on July 11, 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple. She wasove of his life whom he cherished throughout this brief mortal existence and will continue through the eternities.LaMar was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served as scoutmaster, Elders Quorum president, bishopric councilor, Bishop of the Lake Ridge Second Ward, stake high councilor, stake missionary and was a talented and beloved teacher of the gospel. He devoted his life to the gospel of Jesus Christ and received his greatest satisfaction from serving others. His thoughtful service earned the love, trust and admiration of all who knew him. LaMar played the drums as a young man, loved big band music, enjoyed singing, drawing, reading, and writing on gospel topics. Survived by his wife of 47 years; five children, Jeff (Karin) Maddy; Cindy (Kim) Dyches; John (Katie) Maddy; Kaye (Kevin) Astill; Karen (Danny) Astill; brother, Gerald Wayne Maddy; father-in-law, Elgin K. Rose; and 21 grandchildren. Precen death by his parents and younger brother, Kenneth Lynn Maddy; mother-in-law, Gladys Roberts Rose. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30, 1999 at noon in the Magna Utah East Stake Center, 2875 South 8000 West, Magna Utah. Friends may call Thursday, July 29, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West and 2700 South, Magnah, and Friday 11-11:45 a.m. at the Stake Center.
