- Melvin Barnes Scott 1912 ~ 2005 A much loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend died of cardiac disease January 13, 2005. He was born in Winder (Holladay), Utah September 24, 1912 to John Lawson and Minnie Oliver Scon August 1924, Mel, his parents, and three sisters moved from Holladay to Salt Lake City. Shortly after the move Mel's father died. Losing his father at the tender age of 12 had a deep and lasting impact on his life. Mel married Margaret (Peggy) Driscoll May 18, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed nearly 60 years together before Peggy, our bright and shining star, died January 15, 1993. Dad was privileged to meet Maralyn Holley and they married in the Salt Lake Temple May 8, 1999. Mel worked for many years as sales manager for Maycock Food Brokerage Co. He faithfully fulfilled various positions in the West 11th and 11th Wards (where he was a member for 81 years); and the Salt Lake Central Stake, ward clerk (1948-1960), bishop (1960-1966), high council (1966-1976), bishop (1977-1978), stake presidency (1978-1985) and stake president (1985-1988). Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Rulon and Easton; sisters, Fanny Ridges, Olive Bennett, and Luella Scott; and wife, Peggy. His wife, Maralyn; sons, Michael B. (Lynda), Murray, Steven J. (Carol), Holladay; stepchildren, Randall Beadleson, Los Angeles, CA, Sandra Weagraff (Patrick), Sacramento, CA, Brett Beadleson (Robin), Minnesota, Bart Beadleson (Marlene), Florida; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchil-dren; sister-in-law, Helen Frazier Scott; and many friends and fans survive him. The family wishes to thank his family of caregivers, Dr. Imran Zubair, and his staff and Alpine Hospice Services, for their exceptional kindness and care. Mel's children wish to express their love and appreciation to Maralyn for her devotion to Mel. They were very much in love. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at the 11th Ward, 951 East 100 South, 12 noon. A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2005 at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and at the ward prior to services from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
