- Lee Clark Burton, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 2, 1999 following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born November 9, 1923 to Thomas Hyrum and Hannah May Pexton Burton in Nephi, Utah. While in high school, he became an accomplished clarinet player and developed a love for jazz music that he enjoyed his entire life. He graduated frob High School and served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He received a B.S. degree from Utah State University and a M.A. degree from the University of Utah. He worked for the public school system for 33 years as a teacher, counselor, vice principal and principal. He affiliated with Phi Delta Kappa, Kearns Kiwanis Club and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.Lee married Mildred Jones on June 11, 1949 and they were planning to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the time of his death. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1965. He was an active high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving for many years as sunday school secretary, financial clerk, high priest group leadership and the last 27 years as ward clerk. He was an avid woodworker, gardener and fisherman and spent many of his retirement years building and enjoying his cabin with his family. He loved his children and grandchildren and always supported them in their activities even attending and sitting through entire dance recitals. The homes of all his children are filled with finely crafted furniture that exemplify his patience and perseverance with sandpaper.
He is survived by his wife; sons: Steven (Sandra) Burton (West Jordan), Lynn (Venna) Burton (Holladay); daughter,Kathleen (William) Richter (Bountiful); eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter (Sonja, Jonathan, Erin, Sheri, Brittney, Ryan, Katelyn and Madison), and sisters: Florence B. Worthington (Logan) and Blanche B. Hesse (Salt Lake). He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Marcus H. Burton, Clarence G. Burton, and Alma P. Burton.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 7, 1999 at 12 noon at the East Millcreek Fifteenth Ward Chapel, 3750 Hillside Lane (2600 East). Friends and family may call Sunday June 6, 1999 from 6-8 p.m. Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drnd Monday, June 7, 1999 from 10:45 till 11:45 a.m. at the East Millcreek Fifteenth Ward Chapel. Interment will be at the Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi Utah.
