Dixie Louise Grow Gilbert 1930 ~ 2003 " Reunited with her best friend and eternal love in their casino in the sky" On a warm summer day on the 11th of June 1930, our mother, wife, grandmother, and sister, was born in Plain City, Utah to Henry Grow and Ruth Halls Grow, the baby of six children. On October 6th, a cool autumn afternoon, with her daughters at her side she passed on to be with the love of her life, Maurie Gilbert, who left her January 29, 2000. Her long and uncomplaining battle with cancer finally over. She married Maurie in Gainsville, Texas on May 7th, 1955. After living in Ohio, his home state for several years, they moved (at her urging) to Utah to raise their family. First in Ogden, then to finally settle in Centerville. Mom was happy staying home and keeping their "castle" clean and tidy. Her friends and family often kidding her about being so finicky. Dixie was a member of the BPOE #2442, where she met and loved many friends and held office of Historian for the LOE. The good times that she had there were innumerable, and her and dad were known to be one of the last to leave a fun Elks function. The most favorite thing our mom looked forward to was going to her condo in Mesquite. Setting on her front porch with a good cup of coffee and watching the town and its people grow around her. My sister and I believe that "Hospice" is another word for "Angels.". And we had three especially wonderful ones from Rocky Mountain Hospice, Trudy James, and Dr. Bret Newman. We thank you from our hearts for your loving tender care you gave our mother. Grandma Dixie believed more than anyone else in the power of Guardian Angels. Therefore she must be our Guardian angel. Remembered and loved by her two daughters, Nanci Kummer, Centerville; Tammy Shepherd, Woods Cross; granddaughter, Nicole Danielle (Dave) Lloyd, Bountiful; two grandsons, Chad Daniel Shepherd, Magna; Shane Maurice Shepherd, Woods Cross; and great-grandchild, Jasmine Shepherd. And considered in Mom's heart another special grandchild, Cherisse Garcia, also sister, Billie Gray, and brother, Tud Grow, and several loved nieces and nephews. Mom is now enjoying her reunion with husband, Maurice Gilbert, and mother and father, brother, Otto Grow, sisters, Lucile Carter and June Van Fleet, and son-in-law, Keith Kummer. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.

doption (possibly) of Thelma by Fred Burton and Mary Donel Bruce Burton
Contributed By MetcalfTroyLaMar · 22 March 2016 · 0 Comments
This story is coming from a book in my possession.
"The Story of Mary Donal Bruce Burton, by her Daughter-in-Law Mildred W. Burton, Written in 1953"
"Page 10", "Fred and Mary Burton adopted a little girl, seven years old, whose mother had died. This was Thelma who grew up in the Burton home as one of their own. Later Thelma had a son, which Ma Burton kept until he was six."
I have spoken with my Great-Aunt, Janet Ann (Burton) Fullmer, who new Thelma and who visited her at Fred and Mary's home on several occasions. She has stated that Fred and Mary "adopted" Thelma, and raised her as one of their own, But she has never seen any paperwork to prove that she was officially adopted.

Remember when I am gone away, gone far away into the silent land. When you can no more hold me by the hand, nor I half turn to go, yet turning to stay. Remember me when no more day by day you tell me of your future you had planned, only remer me, you understand it will be late to counsel or pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while and afterwards remember, do not grieve, for if the darkness and corruption leave a vestige of the thoughts that I once had, better by far you should forget and smile than you should remember and be sad.
Funeral services will held at the graveside, Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. on Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
