  Enlisted May 30, 1917 in the Army with the 20th Infantry under Col. William R. Dashiell. Was promoted to a 2nd Lt on 2/15/1919. Was a machine gun instructor at Camp Hancock, Ga Lost part of his right thumb in service through accident.
