- Dr. Alfred Tennyson Smurthwaite, N.D, D.C., died December 24, 1991 of cancer at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born November 2, 1927 in Salt Lake City to Alfred T. and Annie Naylor Smurthwaite. Married Verla Grow in 1947; later divorced. Married Louise Burnett, 1969; later divorced. Married Patricia Toone, on April 18, 1987, in Salt Lake City. Member of LDS Church. Veteran of World War II serving in US Navy. Prior to retirement he was a Chiropractic and Naturopathic physician practicing in Murray, Utah. His hobbies included raising show dogs, show pigeons, and was an avid Appaloosa horse breeder. Formerly a body builder, achieving top recognition in the Mr. Utah contest. He loved his family, sports and the out-of-doors.Survived by wife, Pat of Salt Lake City; three sons, Armand T. Smurthwaite, Murray, Utah; Lex A. Smurthwaite, Princeton, Idaho; and Daniel Lawrence Smurthwaite, Salt Lake City; 11 stepchildren; 25 grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth (Bessie) A. Summers and Mildred S. Miller, both Salt Lake City.
Funeral services Saturday, December 28th, at 12 noon, Rose Park North Stake Center, 1155 North 1200 West, where friends may call on Saturday, 10:45 - 11:45 am. Burial, Salt Lake City Cemetery under the direction of Larkin Mortuary.
