| 51 | Douglas Craig Grow, age 69, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in Overton, Nevada. He was born January 25, 1941 in Ogden, Utah to John Leonard and Ethel Randall Grow. On March 17, 1967 he married Patricia Ann Jordan inogan Temple. Craig grew up in Huntsville, Utah, where he graduated from Weber High School. He served a mission in West Germany. He earned his degree from Utah State in Horticulture, then after one year in Logan, he moved his small family to Overton, Nevhere he worked for the Clark County School District for 34 years, managing the school farm. After he retired from the school district, he enjoyed working at the Home Hardware. He served faithfully as a ward clerk for many years. He built his dream cabin at Panguitch Lake. Survivors include his wife, Pat of Overton; one son, Robert (Sara) of Cedar City, UT; one daughter, Tricia McCafferty of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters: Moyer (Alice) Huntsville, UT; Irene (Stan) Groberg or West, UT; Donna Larson of Woods Cross, UT and Melbourne (Nadine) of Deweyville, UT. He was preceded in death by one brother, Randall. Funeral services will be Monday, July 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Logandale LDS Hinckley Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the chapel. | 52 | Douglas James Burton, 81, died August 25, 1994. Born October 3, 1912, in Nephi, Utah, a son of James A. and Kate Pexton Burton.Worked for Mr. Gibson on the City newspaper while attending Nephi High School. He then moved to Salt Lake City where he worked in advertising. From there he moo San Francisco where he went to the American Institute of Banking and worked for the Bank of America. He married Etha Quinn on August 14, 1937 in San Francisco; later moving to Los Angeles. Douglas then went into his own business. They bought a large piece of property in Los Angeles where they built a 12-unit shopping center. They were successful and later retired. They spent 5 years in Mission Viego, California. A few months ago, they moved to Lehi, Utah where Mr. Burton passed away. Survived by two children: Stephen Burton, Alexandria, VA; and Frances Rogers, Thayne, Wyom.; four grandchildren: John Burton, Peter Burton, Eric Rogers and Pamela Rogers; and three great-grandchildren: Katie, Lelsy and Elijah Rogers. | 53 | Douglas Kilton Massey was born December 31, 1941 to George and Florence Massey in Vernal, Utah. He has two brothers, Mark and Jerry and one sister, Margee. They moved to Springville, where he met the love of his life, Louise Ellen Dennis, we married on February 27, 1961. They then moved to Provo, Utah where they built the home and family of their dreams. They had three children, Wendy Ellen Spencer, Danny George Massey and Douglas Boyd Massey. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy after serving 5 years. He retired from Geneva Steel after 35 years and stayed home to take care of the ones he loved. He was a patient man and loved all. Kilt is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mark and his daughter, Wendy. He is survived by his two sons; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and the love of his life Louise. He passed away on Friday, January 7. | 54 | Earl Francis Owen, our quiet and gentle husband and father, passed away on September 22, 2007, age 67, in Provo, Utah. He was born in Lyman, Wyoming, on December 11, 1939, to Charles Henry Owen and Delsa Aleen Edgel, the fourth of nine chil On July 26, 1975, Earl married Carolyn Belle Green in the Provo, Utah Temple. In 1976 they moved from Seattle to Alice Springs, Australia. Later, Earl taught for nineteen years at Brigham Young University as a professor of electrical engineering technology. The couple has four daughters: Laura, New York City; Jennifer, Salt Lake City; Merran, Olympia, WA; and Gillian (Jordan)n, Layton, UT. An active environmentalist, Earl could generally be found either in his garden or at the top of a Utah mountain. He especially loved the Waterpocket Fold in redrock country. He was an enthusiastic member of the Utah Valley Sierra Forum. Tholearly outnumbered by the women in his life, his real passion was his four daughters, Earl's girls. He will be honored at a funeral service on Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., at the Provo Peak Second Ward meetinghouse, 965 N. Locust Lane, Provo, Utah. Chell Hall, an early pioneer of Ashley Valley, died Wednesday evening, after a lingering illness of about three months. he was born March 17, 1849 at Little Pigeon, Iowa.ame to Ashley Valley with his parents in the early days having been a pioneer of the state in 1852. | 56 | Earnest Charles Treseder died the evening of Thursday, March 5, 1998 of heart failure while sitting in his favorite chair at home. He was having a wonderful evening, chatting with his wife, of 57 years, Virginia, and daughter Margaret, whoust arrived from Tucson. Earnest was born in Magna, Utah, the son of William Q. and Julia Worthen Treseder. He was the second son of six boys. He never tired of telling stories of his wonderful youth with his brothers and friends. He graduated from Cypress High Schnd attended the University of Utah until he left to serve his country in World War II. He was affiliated with the oil industry for 50 years, working for Texaco and Blackett Oil. He was deeply involved in the community and the arts. His charming outgoing love for all will be greatly missed.Survived by his wife, Virgina Brown Treseder; son, Nicholas K. (wife, Nell); grandchildren, Brooke and Hunter; son, Keith (wife, Debbie); grandson Benjamin; daughter, Margaret (husband, Brent); granddaughter, Allison Richards (Phil); great-granddaughter, Taylor; and granddaughter, Andrea Brown (Doug); great-granddaughter, Megan. | 57 | Eden Lowell G. Stallings, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005 holding his sweetheart's hand. He was born in Eden, Utah to Elizabeth Ann Carver and George F. Stallings on August 8, 1919. Six adoring sisters welcomed him to the family. He worked on the family farm with his father and always had amazing energy and stamina. He graduatem Utah State University, then called the Agricultural College. One of the highlights of his life was serving an LDS mission to the Japanese people in Hawaii from 1939 to 1942. He cherished the many friends he made there. He married Margaret Grow in 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September. Lowell's Holstein dairy farm was one of the finest. After he retired from dairy farming, he raised alfalfa and barley, doing most of the irrigating himself until this past year. He loved to work and was happiest on his tractor. His flower garden and the birds that visited the feeders in his yard were a joy to him. He loved sports, although he had little leisure time to spend on them, and he was adventuresome enough to learn to water ski at 62. He was Director of Weber Central Dairy and active in the Farm Bureau and president of the Weber County Dairy Head Improvement Association. He was Director of the Eden Irrigation Company and active in the Soil Conservation District for 10 ye He served as bishop of the Eden Ward, a high counselor in the Ogden Stake, and as a counselor in the Huntsville Utah Stake Presidency, as well as many other callings in the LDS Church. He especially enjoyed working in the Ogden Temple. We will miss his hand-dipped chocolates and eating ice cream with him. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Eden; sister Marion King of Garland. Children: George of Eden; Jan Wight (Richard), Ogden; Sharon Vause (Brad), Eden; and Sandra Jenkins (David), Eden; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five sisters: Inez Brown, Zenia Gardner, Doris Ferrin, Ortell McKay and Lila Shupe. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Eden 1st ward, 6450 E. 1900 no. | 58 | Elaine Sharon Munden, 77, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at her home. She was born in Ogden, Utah on Feb. 20, 1933 to Lloyd Burgess Slater and Corrine Smith Slater. She married Kay Morley. On Nov. 1, 1958, she married James Madison Munden. She is survived by three children, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Vicki (John) Anderson, their three boys, Johnny, Ryan and Travis, and their eight grandchildren, all of Twin Falls; Scott (Liz) Munden, their two children,n and Alexis, all of Boise, Idaho and James L. | 59 | Encora Worthen Montague Campbell was born on Aug 4,1928 in Panguitch, Utah to Charles Grow and Sarah Lena Neilson Worthen. She lost her brave fight with colon cancer on Oct 21, 2011. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved her job as a Senior Companion and co-ordinator that she has done for the last 19 years. She loved spending time with her family. She was the second oldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ray, Earlin & Ned, and oldest son Tim Worthen. She is survived by her children, Charlotte Woten-Spanish Fork, Steven-Salem, Richard-Payson & Patricia Montague-Salem, Tina (Mark) Curtis-Payson. Daughter-in-law Vicky Worthen-Kamas and sister Sarah Butcher and sister-in-law Melvelene Worthen. She also helped raise her step-daughter Lynette Montague. | 60 | Erlene Schulthes, age 50,died suddenly on June 17, 2007. Erlene was born on Oct. 14, 1956 in Vernal to Mark Jay and Minnie Phyllis Hunting Schulthes. Erlene enjoyed traveling, reading and playing cards with her friends. She worked at Chucks Drive Inn in her younger years, then she was employed with Ashley Valley Medical Center for many years, after which she was employed with Casa Rios Rrant. Erlene is survived by mother, Minnie Hunting Schulthes; sister, Jayne (Brady) Richens; two nephews, Nicholas J. Richens and Joseph Earl Richens; a niece, Brandy Marie (Chet) Atwood; and one great-niece, Kendra Dee Atwood; along with many aund uncles. Erlene is preceded in death by father, Mark Jay Schulthes; grandparents, Arnold and Awilda Mary Schulthes, Earl and Phyllis Hunting. | 61 | Ethan Bohman Grow, 84, passed away Sept. 16, 1992 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born January 11, 1908, Salt Lake City, the son of Marcus and Elizabeth Bohman Grow. Married Sarah Davis, January 25, 1930, in Farmington, Utah; later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Member of the LDS Church. Served in a Bishopric and heveral other church positions. Served a building mission in Ohio and Indiana. Helped remodel the Salt Lake and Manti LDS Temples. Member of Brotherhood of Carpenters Union for 40 years. According to his family, his greatest accomplishment is that of a loving husband, caring father, and proud grandfather and great- grandfather.Survived by his wife, Sarah; three daughters, Lorraine Knight, Phyllis Douglas, Vicki Martin; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Rice and a brother, Merle Grow. | 62 | Ethel Mae Goodenough Worthen passed away peacefully at her home on July 23, 2010. She was born November 10, 1924 in Magna, Utah to Owen A. and Margaret Catten Goodenough. She married Ira Warren Worthen on August 15, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 28, 1952. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served as the ward librarian for thirty years. She was active in Relief Society helping with craft projects, including quilting, and she loved to hand embroidd do plastic canvas. She leaves behind her husband of sixty-seven years and three children: Dwight (Rebecca) Worthen, Cherie Leishman, and Paula (Vaughn) Barker; brother, Melvin Goodenough; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and many nieces and ne. She was preceded in death by her son, Glen Leon Worthen; parents; one brother; and three sisters. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South. Cook, age 88, of Illinios, formerly a long-time resident of Newnan, Georgia, passed away at 11:10 p.m. August 13, 2008, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois, due to a previous stroke and complications of old age. He was born in Langdale, Alabama, on August 3, 1920 and called "Lefty", Gene was the middle son of Frank C. and Jewell Gladys (Gay) Cook, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by older brother, Edgar P. Cook of Florida, who passed an 1986. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Judd Cook, originally of Utah, and their daughter, Mrs. Pameal Spicer, wife of Dr. J. Pat Spicer, all of Illinois. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jennifer A. Baird of Texas, Brian S. Austin asan Spicer both of Illinois, and grandson-in-law Adam Spicer. His younger brother, Wallace Cook, and nephew, Tony Cook, are still in Georgia. Gene joined the Army Air Corps in 1941, following the Pearl Harbor attack. His group was sent to the Panama Canal Zone to guard that facility. As a sergeant, he work as an airplane mechanic. After the war, he and his wife settled in Georgiae they lived for 49 years. Gene worked mainly as a salesman, retiring with American General Insurance Company in 1985. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served the church as a branch president, stake high councilman, ward missionary, and temple ordinance worker at the Atlanta Georgia Temple. Gene was an avid fan of baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. | 65 | Eunice Hazel Anderson Merrill, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on December 3, 2004, at 88 years of age surrounded by her loved ones. Born February 29, 1916 in Saint Anthony, Idaho to Frederick A. and Fern Y.rson. Hazel celebrated only 22 real birthdays because she was a leap year baby. She enjoyed a wonderful birthday party this year surrounded by friends and family. Married Frank M. Merrill Feb. 14, 1941. They were married for 52 years. Frank passed away May 25, 1993. Hazel is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked in Chicago, IL. when she was young and at LDS Hospital where she met her future mother-in-law and husband. She also worked for Darrell's Beauty Salon and Kay Dunn's Beauty Salon. Hazel will be missed by all that knew her. She was a talented seamstress and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed caring for her home and family. Hazel always had her hair and nails well groomed and loved to wear pretty dresses. She sewed her dresses and dresses for her daughters and nieces. Many of her posterity treasure the handmade quilts made for them. Her crystal icicles adorn many Christmas trees and will be a constant reminder of her love. Whenever we have cake with chocolate frosting or graham cracker cookies with chocolate frosting, grandma's memory will be with us. Mom always told us that "paprika" adds color to our lives. Survived by her children, Steven (Nancy) Merrill, Kaysville; Susan (Larry) Christenson, West Valley City; Craig (Stephanie) Merrill, West Jordan; Colleen (Tom) Clark, West Haven; 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Jane Harward and Joann Symmes and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank; sisters, Merene Scurachio and laVern Spainhower; brother Gerald "Bud" Anderson; granddaughter Amy Celeste Clark. | 66 | FARMINGTON - Elaine Yeaman Thornblad, wife of Robert V. Thornblad passed away Sunday, April 11, 2004 of pancreatic cancer at the South Davis Community Hospital in Bountiful, Utah. She was born October 29, 1919 to Raymond Samuel and Leora Manful Yeaman in Ogden, Utah. ?Elaine and Bob were married August 8, 1952 and spent 51 wonderful years together traveling while in the Air Force and also after they both retired. She retired from Hill Air Force Base after 29 years in civil service working as a supervisor in Civilian Personnel. Her early years were spent in Ogden where she attended Polk School, Central Jr. High and graduated from Ogden High School. She then attended the University of Utah where she received her degree in elementary education and her Masters degree in Psychology. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She was always a top student with straight A s through all of hers of school. She had many special friends, and always tried to keep in touch with concern for everyone's well being. She was a very special person and will be missed by many. Elaine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Farmington Orchard Ward, where she had many loving and caring friends as has been shownhe help and concern for Elaine and her family during these trying times. We especially want to thank the Relief Society for their help. She is survived by her husband Robert, one sister (Donna Flint) of Portage, UT; one sister-in-law (Barbara Crowther) Baltimore, MD; many special nieces and nephews who thought so much of Aunt Elaine . Fay was born in Panguitch, UT, June 25, 1919, daughter of Samuel A. and Alice Cameron Worthen. She married Eugene Darger, Nov. 17, 1937, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a very devoted wife, sister, and aunt, and will be remembered by cess others for her generosity, wit and wisdom. She along with her sister Beth owned Personalized Tax and Accounting Service. She was a cherished friend to many. Fay was an active member of the LDS Church; she served in many capacities, including a leadership mission with her husband. Graduated from Weber High School and Weber Jr. College. She worked as a secretary at the State Capitol for the Federal Emergency Relief Administration.Precen death by two sisters, Verna and Bernice; and a brother, Clyde. Survived by her husband, Quillen F. Treseder, and a daughter, Kaye Terry, both of Salt Lake City. Rites were performed in the First Presbyterian Church by W. Keith Kemp served as best man. Mr. Farrington was recently released from service after 32 months in the Pacific. Frank graduated from South High School. He was a World War II veteran in the Army Air Corps. He retired after 35 years at United Airlines. Frank worked very hard and was a wonderful father and provider for his family. He enjoyed golfing as a member of the "Hole in One Club" and a master carpenter; his favorite was the rocking horses and doll cabinets made for his children and grandchildren. He loved music, traveling, driving, family gatherings and holidays. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Cal; sisters, Donna, Marjorie and Lola. | 72 | Garth Willard Atwood, 88, passed away Aug. 23, 2010, in Ogden after an extensive battle with bone and prostate cancer. He was born June 18, 1922, in Vernal to Ivan Willard and Marie Hall Atwood. Being the oldest child, Garth learned at a very young age to harness and drive a team of horses to do all of the farmwork. By age 11, he was driving a 10-ton truck with 12 speeds forward, seven in reverse and three gearshifts. Lessons learn the 880-acre ranch they homesteaded on Diamond Mountain near Vernal gave him a work ethic that was a great blessing throughout his life. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Lee Thurman, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on Aug. 3, 1943. The first few years of their marriage, he worked at J.C. Penney in Salem, Ore. He then served a stint in the Army's field artillery durorld War II. Atwood went on to graduate from Western States Chiropractic School and School of Naturopathy, and then practiced in Baker, Ore., for awhile. He started his own practice in Buhl, Idaho, in 1950. People came from far and wide to be treated by Dr. Atwood who genuinely loved helping his patients, many times providing his healing services at his own expense. In addition to his chiropractic practice, he farmed 80 acres at Black Bear corn Buhl, and raised and trained Arabian, Appaloosa and American showhorses. Garth loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and camping, and swam a mile every day with his family at Banbury Hot Springs near Buhl. He was an avid private pilot, owning many different airplanes during his life while flying to all parts of oeat country. Mountain and back-country flying was his passion. Together, Dr. and Mrs. Atwood worked hard serving their community as active members of the Jaycees, Kiwanis, PTA, Chamber of Commerce, Grange, and in establishing the College of Southern Idaho when it was located in Buhl. Additionally, Atwoso served in his profession "going up the chairs" and as the president of both the state and national chiropractic associations. In 1978, he moved his practice to Preston and then Mink Creek, Idaho, when he entered semi-retirement. Dr. Atwood served as a bishop in the LDS Church, served a full-time mission in Texas with Marge, and loved to work in various temples of the church. Marge passed away in August 1999. Garth then married Ida Frodsham of Burley, Idaho. Later,08, he married Doris Stock of Ogden, who lovingly stood by his side through these trying times. Garth is survived by his five children, Linda (Diamond) Loosli of Syracuse, Utah, Betty Jo (Dale) Quigley of Twin Falls, Idaho, Beverly (Dr. Trent) Harrison of Taylorsville, Utah, Mary Sue (Steve) Crookston of Preston, Idaho, and John (Susawood of Bristol, Va.; 27 grandchildren; and 79 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his siblings, Ella (Arvel) Allred of Vernal, Marvel (Dick) Kearsley of Ogden, Alice (Lee) Mecham of Redding, Calif., and Charles (Linda) Atwood of Tillamook, Ore. | 73 | Gary Durfey made his final mortal touchdown Nov. 18, with his family cheering him on. Gary was born Dec. 2, 1946 in Ogden, UT to Maythel Marie (Dixie) Olsen and Theo Wood (Buck) Durfey. His marriage to Louise Farrimond was solemnized in tht Lake Temple on Aug. 19, 1969. He was raised in Richland, WA and served a Franco-Belgian mission for the LDS church. When he graduated from BYU in 1971 he began working for ADP in Spokane, WA, transferring to Vancouver, WA in 1984. He retired from ADP in 1996 after 25 years of service. Gary is survived by his wife, Louise; three sons, Richard (Janeal), Michael (Sondra), Daniel (Kyra); and five cherished grandchildren, Mckenzie, Kennedy, Lindsey, Kate and Nicholas; and his sister, Maryanne Weed. He worked for Merle Hinds Co. for many years and then worked at Amfac Electric for 17 years. Gary chose to work at Friendship Manor until he retired. He ed working with the elderly. Gary was born March 6, 1935 in Salt Lake City to Ernest and Katherine Sullivan Scott. He married JoAnne Jorgensen. They later divorced. He then married Arletha Stout. She preceded him in death. Gary is survived by one son, Rory (Vivian) Scott; one sister, Dolores S. Jaquier and many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by his parents and wives. | 75 | Gary Jay Galewick died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in Palo Cedro at the family home. He had been battling cancer for 17 months. Gary was born September 30, 1953 at the San Gabriel Valley Hospital in San Gabriel, California. In 1967 the family moved to Redding, California. Gary attended Enterprise High School and graduated in 1972. He joined the Marines and remained there for his two year session. He was a Radio Tele-Operator. Gary received a National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Mast., Letter of appreciation and Rifle Sharp Shooter Badge. He was honorably disch. In 1978 Gary enlisted in the Army as a helicopter repairman and then taught recruits helicopter mechanics. Three years were spent in Germany. Gary received the Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NCOssional development ribbon, Army Shooter Marksman badge riffle, marksmanship badge pistol, 38 caliber aircraft crewman badge and driven mechanic badge. Gary was honorably discharged on March 31, 1995, after twenty years of service. Gary is survived by Shirlynn Buckley, step daughter of Virginia, Danna Butler and husband Dwayne of Redding, Sabrina Galewick of Anderson and Christina Galewick of Red Bluff, his three grandchildren, Calton Buckley, Sierra and Bradley Butlery's mother Doris Galewick, sisters Gordeen Kenton and husband Greg and Kimberly and Kacey Kenton, Leslie Cotter and husband Frank and sons Kyle and Kevin, and brother Grant Galewick and cousin Guy Galewick of Redding, uncle Stanley and aunt Gloria Galewick of Redding, aunt Pauline and uncle Martin Hatabedian of Pacific Grove, CA and uncle Gordon and aunt Marlene Galewick of Whittier CA. | 76 | George "Harold" Brighton, age 91, died Monday, February 5, 1990 at the home of his daughter in Boise, Idaho, following a short illness. He was born January 29, 1899 in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Daniel Hamner Wells Brighton and Josephine Scott Brighton. He was raised in Salt Lake and Brighton Canyon, Utah. His early life was spent as a silver and nickle miner with hisr and family. They mined in Brighton Canyon, Pioche, Nevada and Lost River County in Idaho. In his early twenties, Harold began barbering in mining camps. He moved to Firth, Idaho in 1926 where he married Bertha Dial on August 7, 1927. Harold barbered in Firth from 1926 until 1973 when he retired. After retiring they moved to Montana to be near their families and lived in Helena. Bertha died January 8, 1988 in Helena. On December 13, 1989 he moved to Boise to be with his daughter until he died. Harold was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening, he specialized in raspberries and was an expert weed puller.Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Florence Stoven Covey of Bountiful, Utah; a daughter and son-in-law, DeeAnn and Don Sessions of Boise, Idaho; a son and daughter-in-law, Norman D. and Marline Brighton of Helena, Montana; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. Cremation has taken place in Boise. Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m., February 17, 1990 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Firth, Idaho. He was a pattern maker and worked at North American and other aircraft companies in California to Rogue, Oregon.Married Dora Simpson January 13, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah; she died October 22, 1927 leaving him with a one day old son, Gail and a year old son, George Ronald. Married Winifred Lillian Griffith July 28, 1928 in Long Beach, California; they were sealed in the Oakland LDS Temple June 15, 1979. He was born November 1, 1912 in Vernal, Utah to George Ova Massey, Sr. and Elizabeth Maud Orgill Massey the fourth of elevildren, he being the oldest son. He married Florence Elma Davis September 8, 1934 in Vernal, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple. George was raised on a farm and loved to garden and share his vegetables with family, friends and strangers. He had a great sense of humor. He loved BYU sports, Jazz basketball and animals. He enjoyed family get-togethers, riding in his Cad, and waving to everyone he met. George retired from Geneva Steel in 1976, working there for 35 years. He received an award for never missing a scheduled workday, or once being late. George is survived by one daughter, Margee Allan (Calvin, deceased); two sons, Kilt (Louise), and Jerry (Paty); 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife and one son, Mary Massey. He is also survived by two special daughters-in-law, Nancy Slater and Maren Kurzer; sisters, Golda Carroll and Illela McKinlay; and brothers, Floyd (Geneva) and Valda Massey. MASSEY On November I, 1912 George Orgill Massey was born to George Ova and Elizabeth Maud Orgill Massey at Vernal, Utah. He was their fourth child. His younger years were spent in Dry Fork, Utah. The parents sold their home in Dry Fork and moved tsen, Utah and bought a farm. George worked on the family farm and graduated from the Uintah High School in Vernal. He met his future wife, Florence Davis, while in high school. They were married September 8,1934. Their first Child, Gloria, was born April 8, 1936 and onved eight days. She was buried in the Maeser Cemetery. Their second child, Margee Ann. They then had three sons; Lilton Douglas, Mark Jody and George Jerald. George worked as a truck driver for about three years. Then he worked as a construction worker while at Geneva Steel for 35 years. When he retired he received an award for working all that time without missing a scheduled work day or onceg late. Both George and Florence have a love of animals and for working in the soil, George in his garden and Florence with her flowers. Their beautifully landscaped yard in Springville is a real showplace where their children and grandchildren arend out several times a day. They both loved fishing and hunting. | 80 | Grace Ogden LeBaron, 96, a noble and generous daughter of our Father in Heaven died March 23, 2012 at her home in Lake Shore Utah. Born January 2, 1916 in Richfield Utah to Leonard William Ogden and Almina Chidester Ogden. As a young woman, she worked in several positions in Salt Lake City including as a comptometer operator in the presiding bishop's office. She served a mission in the North Central States mission. She married Benjamin Teasdale LeBaron in 194ter divorced. She moved to Lake Shore Utah where she found a safe haven for her family, and as a single mother Grace worked hard to be independent, to rear her family, and to teach by example. She loved her children and her extended family, and they were her top priority. She had a spirit of fun and adventure and took her children camping and on various other adventures. She attended nursing school and worked night shift for mans as an L.P.N. at Utah Valley Hospital. She served as the State President of the L.P.N. Association. She was known for her resourcefulness and inventiveness, her sense of humor and her gentleness and compassion. She used her nursing skills to serve her family and her neighbors. Grace served faithfully in many church callings, particularly as a Relief Society instructor and gospel doctrine teacher. After retirement she served for 16 years in the name extraction program in Spanish Fork where she was a supervisor. Shoyed her associations in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Among her loves were reading, travel, family history, and temple work. She avidly studied gardening and could be found working in her garden until age 94 and as the chauffer of many widows she voluntarily hung up her car keys last summer. Survived by one brother, Verl (Esther) Ogden, Richfield, six children, Jennie (Steve) Gibson, Murray, Linda (Miguel) Calderon, Salt Lake City, Julia (Richard) Jacob, Orem, Lila LeBaron, Salt Lake City, Fern (Lawrence) Atwood, Payson; Jonathharon) LeBaron, Fountain Green, 23 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren who call her "Grandma Great", and dear friend Merlene. | 82 | Harold Vernal Yearsley, 82, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at McKay-Dee Hospital. He was born April 8, 1927 in Ogden, a son of Vernal Ezra and Sadie Ione Slater Yearsley. On January 10, 1947, Harold married Ardis Hock in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. Harold was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Harold enjoyed tying flies and loved to fish. He and Ardis were camp hosts at Island Park, Idaho for 18 years. Harold was a volunteer fireman and E.M.T. He retired as a master mechanic after 30 years for Utah Power & Light Co. Surviving are his wife Ardis of Ogden; one son and two daughters, Kurtis H. | 86 | Ira Warren Worthen passed away on July 14, 2011. He was born on January 13, 1923 in Hunter, Utah to Frank Elliott and Cora Olive Hayden Worthen. He married Ethel Mae Goodenough on August 15, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in tht Lake LDS Temple on March 28, 1952. Ira was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served for many years at the church farm and 11 years at the Bishop's Store House in West Valley City, Utah. Ira worked for Kennecott for 42 years. He loved to garden. He grew a huge garden so he could share the vegetables and fruits with others, especially the widows in the ward. Ira leaves behind three children: Dwight (Rebecca) Worthen, Cherie Leishman, Paula (Vaughn) Barker; sister, LaDene Griswold; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; son, Glen Leon Worthen; parents and 10 brothers and sisters. The family extends a special thanks to Suzane Chambers and Jamie Roose for their help in caring for Ira and all the doctors and nurses at Pioneer Valley Hospital for their loving care for Ira during the last two days of his life. | 87 | Irene Hill Ridd, 89, died January 17, 1998. She was born May 21, 19008 in Hunter, Utah to Samuel F. and Almena Morris Hill the oldest of seven sisters and one brother. She was no stranger to hard work, everyone in their home had their share of chores, school work, church work, and moater she participated in mutual, neighborhood parties, sleigh riding, and dancing which she loved. She married Glen Ridd February 7, 1928, he was a good dancer, and they danced and worked together for 29 years, he died June 12, 1957.She served as relief society councilor, PTA President, DUP officer, member of Flower Club, and was an avid gardener and golfer. She worked at Camp Kearns during World War II, and retired from Auerbach's as a floor supervisor in 1974. She was a people person. She started traveling during the horse and buggy days, then Model "T" Ford, then 747 jets around the world. She is survived by daughter Janice (Glen) Martin, grandchildren, Sandra M. Kinsey, Robyn M. Headrick, Cindy M. Bowden, Julie M. Hansen, Michael D. Ridd, David G. Ridd, Jodie Ridd, Eric S. Ridd, Michael Moore, and Kristine Moore, 20 great-grildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, sisters and brother, Maxine (George) Newton, LaRee Pehrson, Valoy Bagley, Gwen (Edgar) Pouillon, and Sam (Sheila) Hill. Preceded in death by husband, son, Douglas Pete Ridd, and great grandson, Brett Bytendorp. Funeral services will be Thursday Jan. 22, 1998 11 am at the Hunter 1st Ward, 3930 So. 6000 W. | 88 | James David Hallmark, 90, passed away May 27, 2008, with his family at his side. David was born to Ivy Aubra Hallmark and Mary Luella Grow on July 20, 1917 in Ogden Utah. He married June Bernice Smith on May 25, 1941, and they were laterd in the Logan LD. Temple. David and June are parents to seven children: Pam (Robert) Wagner, Dianna (Lester) Smith, Jill (Jim) Zier, Michael (Kareena) Hallmark, Steven (Janalee) Hallmark, Kristie (Mark) Bleazard, and Lorrie (Kirt) Naylor. They have 32 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. June predeceased David just six years ago. David and June moved to Boise in 1959. David worked for United Air Lines for 34 years, and for the first 25 of those years, never had a sick day. After retirement in 1980, he was a worker in the Boise LDS Temple. David enjoyed golfing, working with wood, and ice cream. He is a loving father and an outstanding grandfather. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the LDS Chapel, 2300 E. | 89 | James Rex Kirk, Sr., age 84, died August 11, 1990 in a Tooele hospital. Born November 2, 1905 in Ophir, Utah, to James P. and C. Irene Dalton Kirk. Married Dorothy H. Grow, October 22, 1928 in Ogden, Utah. Marriage solemnized June 14, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. High Priest in the LDS Church. Served on thut Commission, Ward Clerk, Bishops Counselor twice, Stake Clerk to five stake presidents, Stake Welfare Clerk, High Councilman, served a mission with his wife in Billings, Montana. He worked at IS&R, Bower Combined Metals, taught welding during World War II, was a parts man at Barrus Motors and was the Tooele County Clerk for 16 years.Survived by his wife, Tooele; son, Jay Rex Kirk, Jr.; daughters, Mrs. Ira (Gayle) Judd, Mrs. Blair (Barbara) Harrison, Mrs. Nolan (Christie) Steadman, Mrs. Tom (Susan) Perkins; 27 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; sister, Neva Hawkins. Preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann and grandsons, James Brent Steadman and Todd Allen Perkins. | 91 | Jeanne Frederick, 84, of Cottage Grove, passed away March 30, 2007 of age related causes. She was born November 12, 1922 in Marysvale, Utah to Ernest and Clara (Haws) Peterson. Jeanne lived in Marysvale during her early childhood and teen, graduating from Marysvale High School. She married Richard A. Frederick on April 3, 1953 in Beaver, Utah. He passed away September 11, 2002. She was a homemaker and also head housekeeper at several National Park Lodges and Resorts. She loved her family and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking, sewing and traveling. She was especialiy fond of her ?Grand Pups? . She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law , Sherrie and John Seymour of Dorena. | 92 | Jesse C. "Clyde" Grow - of Kennewick, Washington, passed away, Monday, August 15, 2011, in Pendleton, Oregon, at the home of his daughter. He was 78 years old. Clyde was born November 3, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the son of Willriffith and Jessie (Knowles) Grow, and was raised & educated in his home town. Clyde served his country honorably as a Boatswain's Mate in the United States Navy, during the Korean War Conflict from 1951-1955. He married Joan Sharon Mortensen on June 25, 1956, in Salt Lake City, 10 days after their meeting on a "blind date." The family moved to Kennewick, Washington, in 1974 as the result of an employment transfer from U & I Sugar to Prior Land. Clyde was a Master Mechanic whose skills were utilized for several years with Sinner Manufacturing, Haffer's Trucking, and then retired from South Columbia Basin Irrigation District in 1998. His interests included gardening, woodworking, fly fishing, baseball, and he especially loved attending his grandchildren's various events. Clyde is survived by son & daughter-in-law, Kris & Diane Grow; daughter, Jessie Grow Hodges; daughter & son-in-law, Barb Grow & Bob Bradford; son-in-law Chris Vickroy; brother, Russell Grow; sister, Rosemary Gordon, sister & brother-in-law, Billie & Lynn "Newt" Newton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, George Elliot Grow; his sisters, Virginia Grow Sedgwick and Kathleen Grow Singleton, his wife of 55 years, Joan; his daughter Cindie (Grow) Vickroy; and an infant son, Jeffrey Clyde Grow. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 19, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. (MST) at Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery in West Jordan, Utah. She was born in Moline, Illinois, May 10, 1935, to Marion Isabel (Pierce) and Wilbur Alwardt Bax Mortensen. Joan loved her dogs, gardens with attending birds, and cooking clubs after retiring from Battelle Northwest as a secretary. She is survived by her husband, Jesse Clyde Grow; sister, Lois Eldredge; son, Kris (& Diane) Grow; daughters, Barb Grow (& Bob Bradford) and Jessie Grow Hodges; son-in-law, Chris Vickroy; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. | 94 | John Ivy Hallmark died peacefully at his Salt Lake City home March 2, 2001. He was born to Mary Luella Grow and Ivy Aubra Hallmark Oct. 7, 1918 in Telocaset, OR. He loved doing mission-ary work and will always be remembered for his know-lef the scriptures. He married Bernice Parsons and later divorced. | 95 | John LaVier Grow 1930 ~ 2011 John LaVier Grow passed away January 15, 2011. Born July 22, 1930 to LeRoy Adams Grow and Francis Elizabeth Gibson, and raised by loving stepmother, Edith Iola Stout. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, John married hfe-long love, Ellen Wilma Henriod, in 1950. In 1972, they were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they had three children. John proudly served in his country during the Korean War (1952-56). His family fondly remembers his knack for finding humor in life; love of outdoors; and unwavering support of family. He loved his antique cars, vintage car shows, hunting, camping. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years, Ellen, children, John DeWayne Grow (Lisa) and JoAnna Shiflett; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, four brothers, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, daughter Betty Lou, and siblings: Kenneth Grow (Jacqueline), William "Lee" Grow and Donna Webb. | 97 | Joseph Berry Allen, 90, of Orem, Utah passed away on October 8, 2002 at his home. He was born August 8, 1912 in Teasdale, Utah to Daniel Joseph and Lorena Cook Allen. He was educated in Wayne County. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He married Wanda Hancock on December 30, 1933 in Torrey, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Manti Temple. Joseph Berry owned and operated several farms. He also worked at and retired from Geneva Steel Company after 25 years. He had a tremendous love for life and nature. He had a natural gift working with and training horses. He helped to organize the Rocky Mountain Morgan Horse Association and the Utah County Sheriff's Posse. He enjoyed hunting and was a very horker. He and his wife served a proselyting mission for 18 months in the Anaheim California Mission from 1978 to 1980. Through his love and commitment to the Lord, he set the example for 15 family members to serve full-time missions. In 1981 they moved to Orem, Utah where he resided until his passing. As a faithful member of the LDS Church, he held several positions of leadership. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Joseph L. (Rhoda Robinson) Allen of Orem, Stanley B. (Loanna Ramsey) Allen of Richfield, and Richard L. (Diane Measom) Allen of Elberta, a daughter-in-law, Margaret Allen Riding of Ephraim, 27 grandchn and 51 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Rae; a son, S. Carvel, and three grandchildren, Jeffrey S., Traci and Miriam. | 99 | Joyce Camille Worthen Walker peacefully returned home to her Father-in-Heaven after a courageous battle with cancer on March 28, 1995. She was surrounded by her family at home for her passing. She was born July 26, 1933 to Donovan H. and Grace Middleton Worthen in Salt Lake City. Raised in Murray/Midvale area. Served LDS mission in Northern Far East Mission (Japan). Married M. Dahl Walker on September 1, 1960 in Salt Lake Temple,r divorced.Received BS from BYU and MS from U of U. She has been an active member of the LDS Church and some of her callings have included ward organist, Relief Society president, and various other callings. She was an elementary school teacher in the Granite School District for many years and was a manager for First Security Bank for over 12 years. She was also involved in many entrepreneurial ventures. She was a strong woman who was a pillar of strength and support to all who knew and associated with her. She served her fellowmen, among many cultures endlessly and selflessly. She will be greatly missed by both family and friends. Joyce is survived by five children and their spouses, Becky A. (Brian) Bentley; Wendy L. (Randy) Baird; Donovan D. (Anny) Walker; David A. | 100 | Joyce Larene Mitchell, was born March 20, 1933 in Jameston, Idaho, to Glen and Florence Gardner Rowbury. She passed away peacefully with family by her side. Mom had spent years defeating cancer and after dad's death, she gave up the fight.as married to Robert Gene Mitchell for 62 years. Mom was loved by all who knew her, she was cheerful and loved to laugh. She had many talents such as sewing, crocheting, knitting, painting, macrame, and so on and she was great at all of them. Mom worked many years as a grocery checker but her favorite time was traveling around North America to art shows with her artistic family. Many newspapers in various states, wrote articles about them. They loved to be in their motorhome and just go from art show to art show. Mom was preceded in death by her husband Robert Gene Mitchell and her parents Glen and Florence Gardner Rowbury. She is survived by her daughter Sharol Goates and husband Doug, her son Robert Gene Mitchell Jr. and his wife Sherry. Her grandchildren Tiffany Lopuszynski and her husband Mike, Alanna Darling and her husband Hoby, James Goates and Diana, Lara Grace and her husband Ron, Sean Goates and his wife Laurie, and Gretchen Mitchell and Tim. Her great grandchildren Akira, Cyanna, Sheya Mitchell, Brittni and Mikey Lopuszynski, Sierra and Mckinzie Darling, Kiersten Goates, Ronald Russell Grace III, Mercediez Grace, Jasmine and Lexy Goates and Sarah Bracey and husband Richard.
