- Gary Jay Galewick died Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in Palo Cedro at the family home. He had been battling cancer for 17 months.
Gary was born September 30, 1953 at the San Gabriel Valley Hospital in San Gabriel, California.
In 1967 the family moved to Redding, California. Gary attended Enterprise High School and graduated in 1972.
He joined the Marines and remained there for his two year session. He was a Radio Tele-Operator. Gary received a National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Mast., Letter of appreciation and Rifle Sharp Shooter Badge. He was honorably disch.
In 1978 Gary enlisted in the Army as a helicopter repairman and then taught recruits helicopter mechanics. Three years were spent in Germany. Gary received the Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NCOssional development ribbon, Army Shooter Marksman badge riffle, marksmanship badge pistol, 38 caliber aircraft crewman badge and driven mechanic badge. Gary was honorably discharged on March 31, 1995, after twenty years of service.
Gary is survived by Shirlynn Buckley, step daughter of Virginia, Danna Butler and husband Dwayne of Redding, Sabrina Galewick of Anderson and Christina Galewick of Red Bluff, his three grandchildren, Calton Buckley, Sierra and Bradley Butlery's mother Doris Galewick, sisters Gordeen Kenton and husband Greg and Kimberly and Kacey Kenton, Leslie Cotter and husband Frank and sons Kyle and Kevin, and brother Grant Galewick and cousin Guy Galewick of Redding, uncle Stanley and aunt Gloria Galewick of Redding, aunt Pauline and uncle Martin Hatabedian of Pacific Grove, CA and uncle Gordon and aunt Marlene Galewick of Whittier CA. There are numerous cousins and nieces throughout the state.
Gary was a widower since 2001 when his wife died.
Gary was known as a great kidder and enjoyed Halloween, always role playing as "Dracula" and passing out the treats to the children.
Interment will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Igo on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 1 p.m.
In Gary's honor the Veterans Color Guard will perform their service at the chapel.
