"Clyde" Grow - of Kennewick, Washington, passed away, Monday, August 15, 2011, in Pendleton, Oregon, at the home of his daughter. He was 78 years old. Clyde was born November 3, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the son of Willriffith and Jessie (Knowles) Grow, and was raised & educated in his home town. Clyde served his country honorably as a Boatswain's Mate in the United States Navy, during the Korean War Conflict from 1951-1955. He married Joan Sharon Mortensen on June 25, 1956, in Salt Lake City, 10 days after their meeting on a "blind date." The family moved to Kennewick, Washington, in 1974 as the result of an employment transfer from U & I Sugar to Prior Land. Clyde was a Master Mechanic whose skills were utilized for several years with Sinner Manufacturing, Haffer's Trucking, and then retired from South Columbia Basin Irrigation District in 1998. His interests included gardening, woodworking, fly fishing, baseball, and he especially loved attending his grandchildren's various events. Clyde is survived by son & daughter-in-law, Kris & Diane Grow; daughter, Jessie Grow Hodges; daughter & son-in-law, Barb Grow & Bob Bradford; son-in-law Chris Vickroy; brother, Russell Grow; sister, Rosemary Gordon, sister & brother-in-law, Billie & Lynn "Newt" Newton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, George Elliot Grow; his sisters, Virginia Grow Sedgwick and Kathleen Grow Singleton, his wife of 55 years, Joan; his daughter Cindie (Grow) Vickroy; and an infant son, Jeffrey Clyde Grow. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 19, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. (MST) at Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery in West Jordan, Utah. Honorary pallbearers are: Ben Messinger, Rob Grow, Seth Romm, Kiel Bowen and Jesse D. Grow. A memorial service will be held in honor of Clyde in the Tri-Cities over Labor Day weekend.

Upon finding out, Joan's mother, Marion Isobel Pierce took Joan to see Marion's boss, Spencer W. Kimball. The marriage was annulled. Then Joan married Thomas Payne Hendricks and divorced him. In 1956, Joan married Jesse Clyde Grow 10 days after meeting him. Joan and Clyde were married 56 years.
