- George O. Massey, Jr., age 93, passed away Monday, October 23, 2006 at Utah Valley Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born November 1, 1912 in Vernal, Utah to George Ova Massey, Sr. and Elizabeth Maud Orgill Massey the fourth of elevildren, he being the oldest son. He married Florence Elma Davis September 8, 1934 in Vernal, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple.
George was raised on a farm and loved to garden and share his vegetables with family, friends and strangers. He had a great sense of humor. He loved BYU sports, Jazz basketball and animals. He enjoyed family get-togethers, riding in his Cad, and waving to everyone he met. George retired from Geneva Steel in 1976, working there for 35 years. He received an award for never missing a scheduled workday, or once being late.
George is survived by one daughter, Margee Allan (Calvin, deceased); two sons, Kilt (Louise), and Jerry (Paty); 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife and one son, Mary Massey. He is also survived by two special daughters-in-law, Nancy Slater and Maren Kurzer; sisters, Golda Carroll and Illela McKinlay; and brothers, Floyd (Geneva) and Valda Massey.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 672 North 250 West in Springville. There will be a viewing held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. in Springville and Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.

GEORGE O. MASSEY
On November I, 1912 George Orgill Massey was born to George Ova and Elizabeth Maud Orgill Massey at Vernal, Utah. He was their fourth child. His younger years were spent in Dry Fork, Utah. The parents sold their home in Dry Fork and moved tsen, Utah and bought a farm.
George worked on the family farm and graduated from the Uintah High School in Vernal. He met his future wife, Florence Davis, while in high school. They were married September 8,1934. Their first Child, Gloria, was born April 8, 1936 and onved eight days. She was buried in the Maeser Cemetery. Their second child, Margee Ann. They then had three sons; Lilton Douglas, Mark Jody and George Jerald.
George worked as a truck driver for about three years. Then he worked as a construction worker while at Geneva Steel for 35 years. When he retired he received an award for working all that time without missing a scheduled work day or onceg late.
Both George and Florence have a love of animals and for working in the soil, George in his garden and Florence with her flowers. Their beautifully landscaped yard in Springville is a real showplace where their children and grandchildren arend out several times a day. They both loved fishing and hunting.
