Melvin Hyde Ridges, 90, died January 3, 1997 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born January 2, 1907 in Baltimore, Maryland to Alfred Joseph and Edna Marinda Hyde Ridges. Married Fannie Ann Scott on September 2, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. She passay on January 28, 1971. Married Annette Newman Borg on May 4, 1972 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served a mission with her to the San Diego's Visitor's Center, 1979-1980. Active in the LDS Church his whole life and served a mission to England. Mel graduated from LDS High School and the University of Utah. His career with New York Life Insurance Company spanned 50 years as a CLU and life-member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He deeply loved Lamb's Canyon.
Survived by his wife, Annette; daughter, Marian R. (Miles P.) Romney; son, J. Douglas (Mary) Ridges; step-children, Kenneth P. (JoAnn) Borg, Jr., Susan (Jim) Archuletta, Kathy (Jerry) Huish, Wendy Patterson, Bonnie (Stephen), Johnson, Shannichael) Wikstrom; all of Salt Lake City; 29 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen R. Okelberry, Salt Lake City; and Edna R. Gaskill, Ogden, Utah.
Preceded in death by a great-granddaughter; brother, Alfred Hyde Ridges; sisters, Jennis R. Farley and Jean R. Jennings. Born November 1, 1915 in Glendale, Arizona. Preceded in death by husband, Don W. Wright, in 1976.
Survived by daughter, Diane Phelan; grandchildren, Tiffany, Stephanie, John, and Heather Phelan; great-grandchildren, Carissa Phelan; sisters, Lucille Lopez, Norma Lawson; brother, Ray King; stepchildren, Don Wright, Jr., Laverl Matalavage, and many more step-grandchildren.
She had won many awards for numerous volunteer hours at the VA Hospital. Was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 112, for over 40 years.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
Graveside services will be Friday, November 12, 1993, at 11 a.m., at the Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road. Viewing will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Redwood Memorial Estates Mortuary, and one hour prior to services.

Born April 8, 1911 in Beaver, Utah, to Ernest L. and Marie Worthen Hancock. She married Garold L. Parkins, April 30, 1950 in Salt Lake City; he died June 25, 1988. Member of the LDS Church. Retired secretary at Hill AFB.
Surviving are son, James and wife, Shanna, of Kearns; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda and husband, Berry Allen, of Orem. Preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Cryptside services will be held Monday, November 29, 1993, 2 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road, where friends may call one hour prior to services.

He died March 1, 1981. Married Eldon Reed C. Graduated from Garfield County High School in May 1924. Studied music at the McCune Mansion in Salt Lake City under Professor Graham. Active member of LDS Church. Member of Daughter of Utah Pioneers and Cowbells. Worked extensively in genealogy. Loved nature and the outdoors.
Survived by husband, Delta; son, Marlow Cropper, Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, Kelly L. Cropper and Karen C. Hafner, both Las Vegas, Nev.; great-grandchildren, Shawn T. Cropper, Aubrie L. Cropper, Grant L. Cropper, Krysta Nelson, Alishison, Indya Nelson, James Nelson; sister, Fern Liddell.

1406 Sam H. Henderson, 94, former Burley and Heyburn resident, passed away early Friday morning, Aug. 13, 2010, at a Pocatello health care facility.

He was born June 24, 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Scotty and Elizabeth Lee Henderson. He married Theo Grow on Aug. 24, 1940 in Burley, Idaho. She survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Jolene and Roger Wilson, and Lorine and Steve Croxall, all of Chubbuck, Idaho; a son, Lee and Donna Henderson of West Jordan, Utah; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Nichellotte Lee Wilson and four brothers, Jack, Jim, Joe and George.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

Samuel Slater, 57, of 364 Dan street, formerly employed by John W. Scowcroft and Sons company, died in a local hospital last night after a short illness.
Mr. Slater was born in Huntsville August 1, 1880, a son of Thomas G. and Elizabeth Burgess Slater. He had resided in Ogden his entire life. His first wife, Sadie Grow, died in Ogden during 1910 and in 1915 he married Rhoda Gibbs.
Besides the widow he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Ione Yearsley of Ogden; Mrs. Fay Burton of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Pearl Allen of Ogden; nine grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Thomas Slater, Mrs. Alice Rackham, and Mrs. Elizabeth Rackham, Ogden; Mrs. Minnie Farrin, Eden and Mrs. Lottie Allen, Huntsville.
Services will be held Sunday at two o'clock in the L.D.S.Fifteenth ward chapel with Bishop Earl Lee conducting.
Friends may call at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Ione Yearsley, 364 Dan street, after five p.m. Saturday and also Sunday until the hour of services. Interment will be at the Mt. Ogden Memorial park, with the Mt. Ogden Mortuary in charge.

1410 Sarah "Sadie" Grow, 89, passed away March 16, 1994.

She was born September 15, 1904 in Wales, Utah, a daughter of Benjamin and Sophia Christensen Davis. Married Ethan Grow, January 25, 1930 in Farmington, Utah. Later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.

She was very active in the LDS Church and held many positions in the Primary. She loved playing the piano in church and for her family.

She is survived by her three daughters, Lorraine Knight, Phyllis Douglas, and Vicki Martin; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter. Preceded in death by her husband and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, 1994 at 2 p.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 10600 South 1700 East, where friends may call Saturday one hour prior to the services. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.

1411 Sarah Elzana Snow Hogmire, 77 of Caldwell, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at a local care facility.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 6th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 12th & Everett, Caldwell under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Viewings will be held on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dakan Chapel and Monday morning from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. in the Relief Society Room prior to services.

Elzana was born July 21, 1937 in Los Angeles, California to Lonnie and Dorothy Snow. They moved to Idaho when she was young where she was raised and educated in Caldwell. She met her husband, Donald Hogmire, when she was in the 5th grade. They married in 1955 and together raised 6 children.

Elzana was a hardworking mother, taking care of her family while working at Dairy Queen when her children were young. Later, she worked at the Idaho State Liquor Dispensary until her retirement.
Elzana is survived by her husband of 59 years, Don Hogmire of Caldwell; 6 children, David (Terri) Hogmire of Middleton, Diana Heintz of Bouse, AZ, Randy Hogmire of Caldwell, Ruth (Richard) Dotson of Camas, WA, Carolyn (James) Randolph of Caldwell, and Craig Hogmire of Caldwell; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, LaVonna Corder of St George, UT.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and a brother.

Sarah Lydia Scott, the fourth child and oldest daughter of George Grow Scott and Sarah Wilkinson Miles was born 7 March 1909 at St. Mark?s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. The family lived at Poplar Grove, which is now in Salt Lake Cityr older brothers were Sylvester Charles, who had black hair and brown eyes, was born 14 August 1900. William Douglas had red hair and blue eyes, born 3 July 1903. Lee Lawson was the tow-head and a very delicate baby, being born 5 February 1906 with three leaks in his heart.

Scheron is survived by her son, Mitchell Terry, daughter Jolene Terry and three grandchildren, three brothers and one sister. Preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist?s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden.

1426 Searchers Find a Body in Big Hole

The body of a Boulder man who disappeared Sunday while fishing on the Big Hole River was recovered Monday after a six-hour search by four area search and rescue units and residents of Melrose.
Thomas Michael Cantlon, 51, an employee of Boulder River School and Hospital apparently died of a heart attack before falling into the river one mile South of Melrose Sunday, Madison County Sheriff Hoy Kilson said.
Kilson siad no water was found in Cantlon's lungs, indicating he probably did not drown. He said the man recently had been released from the hospital, recovering from an operation.
The body was recovered in a river channel about four miles South of where Cantlon's gear and tackle box were found Sunday.
An unsuccessful seven-hour search Sunday was continued Monday by about 40 persons including members of the Vigilante Search and Rescue from Twin Bridges, Ruby Valley Search and Rescue Team from Twin Bridges, Ruby Valley Search and Rescue fromeridan. Beaverhead Search and Rescue from Dillon and Big Hole Search and Rescue from Melrose.
Silverbow County Deputy Fay Bumgarner, who found the body with Bob Gooding of Melrose about 12:45 commended all those involved for their concern and cooperation.
Services for Mr. Cantlon pending at K & L Mortuary in Twin Bridges. He is survived by five children in Spokane.

CANTLON RITES

Service and burial for Thomas Michael Cantlon, 51 of oulder are pending at the Hennessy Funeral Home in Spokane.
Mr. Cantlon died of a heart attack Sunday while fishing in the Big Hole River one mile south of Melrose. His body was recovered Monday in a river channel about four miles south of where his gear and tackle box were found.
Mr. Cantlon was born November 27, 1924 in Butte.
Sons Athony and Michael of Spokane survive.
K and L Mortuary of Twin Bridge will forward the body to Spokane.

WHEREAS, William George Van Patten was born on April 10, 1931, in Rochester, New York, to Earl and Dorothy Jeffers Van Patten; and
WHEREAS, William grew up in Upstate New York and attended
Mississippi Southern College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, After enlisting in the United States Air Force, William was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, where he met, and on May 6, 1954, married, Sharlene Sandin, his wife of 41 years; and
WHEREAS, Upon being discharged from the Air Force, William attended the University of Nevada, Reno, before entering the Los Angeles School of Optometry, from which he graduated in 1959 with a doctorate; and
WHEREAS, Shortly after his graduation, Dr. Van Patten moved to
Carson City, opened his optometric practice in August 1959 and continued in the practice for 39 years, until retiring in 1998; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Van Patten set a standard for excellence in his chosen field and endeared himself to thousands of residents of Carson City in the capacity of optometrist because of his caring, reassuring manner; and
WHEREAS, Many hours of his days not dedicated to his practice were spent in community service through such organizations as the Carson City School Board, on which he served from 1967 to 1978, and the Rotary Club of Carson City, in which held numerous offices; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Van Patten maintained his professional acuity through membership in such organizations as the Nevada Optometric Association, Nevada State Board of Optometry and American Optometric Association; and
WHEREAS, All those who knew Bill Van Patten as a friend, public
servant, doctor, family member or in any other capacity were saddened by
his death on February 17, 2000; and
WHEREAS, William Van Patten is survived by his son, William G. Van Patten Jr., and his daughter, Katrina Van Patten-Copoulos, both of Carson City, his brothers, James and Robert Van Patten, both of Florida, and his
grandchildren, Zach and Dion Copoulos and Ronnie Sharlene Van Patten;
now, therefore, be it
