Born January 2, 1907 in Baltimore, Maryland to Alfred Joseph and Edna Marinda Hyde Ridges. Married Fannie Ann Scott on September 2, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. She passay on January 28, 1971. Married Annette Newman Borg on May 4, 1972 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served a mission with her to the San Diego's Visitor's Center, 1979-1980. Active in the LDS Church his whole life and served a mission to England. Mel graduated from LDS High School and the University of Utah. His career with New York Life Insurance Company spanned 50 years as a CLU and life-member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He deeply loved Lamb's Canyon. Survived by his wife, Annette; daughter, Marian R. (Miles P.) Romney; son, J. Douglas (Mary) Ridges; step-children, Kenneth P. (JoAnn) Borg, Jr., Susan (Jim) Archuletta, Kathy (Jerry) Huish, Wendy Patterson, Bonnie (Stephen), Johnson, Shannichael) Wikstrom; all of Salt Lake City; 29 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen R. Okelberry, Salt Lake City; and Edna R. Gaskill, Ogden, Utah. Preceded in death by a great-granddaughter; brother, Alfred Hyde Ridges; sisters, Jennis R. Farley and Jean R. Jennings. Special thanks for the compassionate care given to Mel by the staff at Garden Terrace. In lieu of flowers, the family sts contributions to the charity of your choice. Funeral services Tuesday, January 7, 1997 at 12 noon, Valley View 3rd Ward, 1925 E. Gundersen Lane. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Monday evening 6-8 p.m., and at the Ward on Tuesday, 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery. ___________________________________________________________
