LaVon M. Grow
RIVERDALE - LaVon Masters Grow, our loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2009.
She was born February 16, 1925 to William M. Masters and Sadie Idsinga in Ogden, Utah. She was the youngest of five siblings. LaVon attended Ogden City Schools, graduating from Ogden High School in 1943. She also attended the Ogden Business College.
She married J. Randall Grow in Ogden, Utah on April 14, 1948. On a beautiful spring day in 1954, they were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together, they had two daughters, Lynette and Sandy. They loved traveling and Weber State basketball games. Randall died in January of 1992.
As a teenager, LaVon worked at The Pilot cafe as a carhop. She worked in the office at the Ogden Defense Depot during World War II, then at the Ogden Meadow Gold Dairy, recording milk deliveries. LaVon later retired from the Internal Revenue Service after 20 years of service.
LaVon loved to crochet and made countless receiving blankets for her daughters, granddaughters, great-grandchildren, and nieces. She never missed the opportunity to hoot and holler at Jazz games on TV, and she loved raising her beautiful flowers. As a tribute to her Dutch heritage, she always grew tulips in her garden in springtime. LaVon was fond of the adage, "If you're not Dutch, you ain't much."
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Riverdale 3rd Ward, and loved Relief Society, serving as a visiting teacher for many years. She also taught Sunday school.
LaVon will be greatly missed by her surviving family: daughters, Lynette Grow and Sandy Beierlein, son-in-law Steve Beierlein; granddaughters, Stephanie (Travis) Parke and Stacie (Darrell) Carter; four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Colton, Maggie, and Garrett Carter; her brother, William M. (Helen) Masters; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Mildred (Lynnwood) Wangsgard, Alberta (Bob) Williams, and Bette (Bill) Dallof.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jeffrey Call, IHC Home Care, and the many nurses at McKay Dee Hospital for their caring help and support during LaVon's many illnesses. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist?s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday 1 to 1:45 p.m.
Interment, Lindquist?s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
