Notes |
- OLIVE McCandless, married Louis Dobbs of Bingham., She came to Bingham to visit with her sister and decided to go to work while there and worked at the McDonald Boarding House for a time. She met Lou at a dance in Lower Bingham and later married him. They had two children a girl and a boy,. The boy died at birth., They lived in Bingham until the early twenties when they moved to Dividend Utah. Lou died and Olive married again. Alaine trained for a nurse and made a career of it. Olive died in a Salt Lake Hospital, and is buried in mount Olive Cementery in Salt Lake.
Before leaving Bingham they moved into a house they had bought and was cleaning up the place, there was a heater in one room filled with trash and Olive lighted it and a bullet exploded and put out one eye. Lou while working at the Highland Boy Mine caught his hand in the machinery that hoisted the elevator that hauled the men from one level to the other in the mine. He knew that if he didn't get it out that the men would be killed. He finally got it out tearing most of the flesh from his hand doing so. He got it stopped in time to save the mens lives but spent a long time in the hospital having grafting and one thing after another on his hand. Lou grew up in Highland Boy and he was well liked by all who knew him. Alaine was married and divorced and then married Larry Schwan of Salt Lake. They had three children. He died. She has never married again.
Olive McCandless is the daughter of Jame Gary and Martisha Louise McCandless, she was born in Stokes Col N.C., 30 July 1891. She came to Utah with her parents May 1893 and lived in Lehi until going to Bingham.
