- Our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, George Richard Steglich, returned to his heavenly father on Friday, April 21, 2000 after a courageous battle with cancer.George was born July 23, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the only sonladys Carman and Martin Steglich. He married Shirley Rae Sutton. They were later divorced. He married Sally Fowler, February 19, 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He lived in Roy for the past 40 years. He worked at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 1979. He took an overseas tour of duty in Chateauroux from 1956-1959, Athens, Greece in 1959-1960. He was an active member of the Lakeview Ward, and served in many capacities. His first love was scouting.
He is survived by his loving wife Sally of Roy; one son and four daughters, Kevin (Terri) Steglich, Montana; Sharon Crandall, Salt Lake City; Susan Christensen, Escalente, Utah; Kim (Alan) Haws, Centerville; Kristen Steglich, North Salt Laky; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Steglich, Joyce Fryer, Janett (Steve) Crabtree, all of Salt Lake City; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Robert "Butch" Steglich.
George loved life and lived it to the fullest. His courageous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. His philosophy was "you can laugh or cry your way through adversity, but I choose to laugh". He loved the simple things in life--his, his family and being of service to others. He was the neighborhood mechanic and "fix it" man. He also enjoyed working in his beautiful yard and attending annual family outings at Bear Lake. His home was open to everyone and he always made people feel welcome. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We love you dad, your family.
The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. Vincent Hanson and staff for the loving care provided to George.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, Research Division, 2000 East North Campus Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84113.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends and family will meet Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment Lindquist Memorial Gardense Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
