- Beth Jensen Gibson
Beth Jensen Gibson, formerly of Huntsville, died Nov. 13, 2011, in San Antonio, TX, at the age of 91.
Mrs. Gibson was born in Carey, ID, Nov. 11, 1920, to Wilmer Christian and Ena Isabell Grow Jensen. She was raised in Huntsville and graduated from Weber High School. As a young woman, she was trained as a beautician. During World War II she worked at the Remington Arms Factory in Salt Lake City loading ammunition belts and driving a forklift. She also worked at the Army Quartermaster Corps Supply Depot in Ogden loading freight on rail cars.
She married William J. Gibson of North Ogden on May 24, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple of the LDS Church.
Col. Gibson's career with the U.S. Air Force took them around the world to duty stations in Texas, California, Illinois, Morocco, Utah and England. Mrs. Gibson attended Brigham Young University while her husband was assigned there as a Professor of Air Science. She frequently volunteered in the many places she lived, including as a "Pink Lady" in hospitals. While her husband was in Vietnam, she lived in Ogden where she worked for the American Red Cross, first as a volunteer, and then later as the coordinator of Service to Military Families. After retirement from the Air Force in 1971, the Gibsons lived in Roy and Ogden before moving to San Antonio in 1991.
Wherever she lived in the world, Mrs. Gibson was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often serving in small branches of the Church where she and her husband provided leadership and inspiration to others.
Col. Gibson passed away on Sept. 2, 2010.
Mrs. Gibson is survived by three children: Patricia Zanghi of Athens, PA; Daryl Gibson of Austin, TX; and John Gibson of San Antonio, TX; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joan Pace of Wanship and Kathryn Ensign of Huntsville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit family on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, North Ogden Ben Lomond Cemetery. Contributions are suggested in her honor to the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church.
