  	The funeral for James Wesley Grow Sr., a retired surveyor and former Lewiston City Council member who had a successful professional boxing career, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Lewiston Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The dedication of the grave will follow at Normal Hill Cemetery at Lewiston. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home at Lewiston. Grow, 63, died Sunday at his Lewiston home of complications from a fall and circulatory problems. He was born Jan. 25, 1932, at Moab, Utah, to Wesley H. and Janet Price Grow. He spent his childhood at Nampa before moving to Lewiston in 1944. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1950. Following graduation he attended Boise Junior College. He married Doris Marlene Nye Aug. 21, 1954. From 1948 to 1961, Grow was a world-class profession fighter. After his retirement from boxing, he sold cars at a local car dealership until 1963, when his father became ill and he took over the family engineering and surveying business. He continued as a land surveyor until retiring in 1994. Grow had a sometimes stormy tenure on the Lewiston City Council, his feisty nature often making him the center of controversy. He served on the council from 1984 to 1988, when five members of the council were ousted in a recall election. He donated his time and coached children in boxing at both Lapwai and Lewiston. He also trained his son, Michael Grow, who went on to become a world-class professional fighter. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the bishopric of the Lewiston First Ward and was a stake missionary at Lapwai. He is survived by his wife of Lewiston; two sons, James W. Grow Jr. and Michael A. Grow, both of Lewiston; and three daughters, Julie Kay Dague of San Rafael, Calif., and Patricia Lynn McNish and Kassie Sue Grow, both of Lewiston. He is also survived by four brothers, Robert Grow of Mesa, Ariz., Don Grow of Layfayette, Ore., David Grow of Visalia, Calif., and Alan Grow of Idaho Falls; five sisters, Blanche Dickinson of Lewiston, Rosemary Grow of Mill Valley, Calif., Janet Burgess of Victoria, British Columbia, Kathleen Gray of Visalia, and Carol Kearney of Greenbrae, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Family Hospice of Lewiston.
