FAITHFUL PIONEER AND TEMPLE WORKER, PASSES TO HIS FINAL REWARD
Friday night, March 23, Thomas Yeaman, age eighty-six passed away after an illness of several weeks. Brother Yeaman was widely known, and loved in various parts of Utah and Wyoming, as a loyal and faithful church worker, and an honest energetic community builder.
He was born in Toronto Canada, Sept 11, 1886, With his parents he emigrated to the U.S. 1889, settling in Ohio. From Ohio they removed to Nauvoo, thence to Iowa. Brother Yeaman came to Utah in 1861. Three years prior to coming to Utah, he married Martha Ann Moore. Ten children were born to Mr and Mrs Yeaman, none of whom are still living. They are; John, West Ogden, Mrs A.J. Anderson, Ogden; Sterling, West Ogden; Mrs N.n. Hill, Logan; Mrs A.L. Hale Afton, Thomas Jr., M.D. and G.W. All of Afton and Mrs Frank Roberts, Ogden.
For the last four or five years of his life, Bro. Yeaman could boast of being the patriarch of five living generations. He was one of the remaining few who could boast the pleasure of remembering distinctly Prophet Joseph, whom he saw on several occasions.
Brother Yeaman's first wife died in Afton, Wyo. In 1918. In July 20, 1921 he married Mrs Dora Stroud a convert to the Mormon church from Texas. She nursed him throughout his entire illness and accompanied the body to Afton, where interment took place in the Afton Cemetery beside his first wife. A host of loving friends and relatives extend sympathies to the devoted wife.
Brother Yeaman is survived by nine children, forty-four grandchildren, forty-six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Brother Yeaman was called as some of the pioneers to settle Ogden Valley. There he engaged in the business of sawing lumber and farming. From Ogden they emigrated to Star Valley in 1887. Here in this valley he continued the business of milling and farming. He established and operated the first saw mill in the valley, and sawed the first lumber that was sawed from our forests. He was one of the earliest forest rangers, under Supervisor Charles C. Deloney the first supervisor of Teton National Forest.
He also held the office of Justice of Peace, which he filled in a very efficient manner of r some years.
He retired from this active life in 1906 and established himself in the mercantile business, which he conducted until the spring of 1920. He then moved to Logan and ws engaged in temple work when he met Dora shroud to whom he was married July 20, 1921 and they have worked continuously in the Logan temple until his death.
Funeral services were held in the South Ward Chapel March 27, 1923 at 2 p.m. The able speakers were his former Bishop Osborne Low and Bro's A.V. Call, Thomas H. Walton and President Clarence Gardner.
All those spoke of his active life in the church and of his honest and integrity. Also his keen judgment and belief (not readable)
Beautiful music was rendered by Arichie, Osbson and the South Ward Choir. Interment was made in the Afton Cemetery.
