HUNTER- On August 18th, 2007 beloved mother, Maxine Hill Newton, quietly and serenely walked through the light into the waiting arms of her sweetheart.
Born August 13th, 1917 to Samuel and Almena May Hill in the farming community of Hunter, Utah, she lived, loved and rejoiced in a life filled with family and service. She married her life-long friend, George Alfred Newton May 17, 1941; tor they raised their children, George Fred (Cheryl), and Mary Jayne (Chad) on the Newton family farm.
An extraordinary zest for knowledge led Maxine to the University of Utah where she distinguished herself graduating Summa Cum Laude with undergraduate and graduate degrees. She went on to teach many years at Granger High School and later red to the University of Utah in 1985 to receive the Merit of Honor Award as U of U Emeritus. Along the way she garnered many awards: Foremost Women of the Twentieth Century, Community Leaders of America, The Wiley Berger Award for Volunteerism and she was inducted into the West Valley City Hall of Fame, but her greatest pride lay in her family, seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Dedicated, devoted, and strong through many challenges she leaves an enduring legacy of love and commitment.
Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at the Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 W. 4100 S. Friends and family may call Monday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., Magna.
