James M. Hawkins, 81 of 2826 Childs, veteran patrolman of Ogden City police department, died Saturday at nine-thirty a.m. of causes incident to age.
Mr. Hawkins was born in Atlanta, Ga., Dec. 25, 1857 and was a convert to the L.D.S. church there. He was subjected to the severe persecution members sustained in Georgia and when 18-years-of-age came to Utah which had since been his home.
He was a member of the Ogden police department as a patrolman for 20 years.
A member of Eleventh ward he was a high priest in the Weber stake and for many years was a ward teacher.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bessie Hawkins Ogden; and the following sons and daughters: Lieut. Dewey F. Hawkins, Ogden police department; Walter M. Hawkins, Mrs Rose Hamilton, Mrs. Beatrice A. Cunningham, Ogden; Mrs. Rhoby Larson, San Jose,lif. and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Adela Van De Graaf, Ogden; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be conducted Tuesday at three p.m. at the mortuary, Twenty-fourth at Adams by Former Bishop L.N. Hess of the Eleventh ward. Burial will be in Ogden City cemetery.
