This is a transcript/translation in English of the Schuler Family Chronicle written by the patriarch of the family, William Schuler, some time after the family came to the US with additions by his daughter Ida Schuler Kelley and minimal (mostly spelling) corrections (in italics) by his great-grandson Kenneth B. Gilbert (this writer) based on later research. The original German document was with Ida Schuler Kelley and must be presumed lost. This version was created sometime in the 1970-1980's by Ida Schuler Kelley as noted in the document.

On October 31, 1885 a son was born to us and christened on
November 1st with the name Ernest Ludwig. His God parent's are Ludwig Kurz, non commissioned officer in the 7th Royal
Wurttemberg Infantry Regiment, son of the Rentner Kurz in Tubingen and Maria Ackerknecht, wife of hotel owner in Kempten also mother's aunt who had raised her after her mother's death.
From here we emigrated to America and are now in Philadelphia since July 6, 1886. Through enlightenment and the power of circumstances, we avoided the church and indulged in free-religious ideas and kept them so far, especially as we found out that the church acts only in the interest of capital and the rich and not, like the founder of Christianity, in the interest of the poor.
