Illness Claims Archer Farmer

Samuel Orris Wilcox, 81, Archer dry farmer, died Saturday [1 December 1956] in a local hospital following a lingering illness. He was born in Cedar Fort, Utah, Oct. 19, 1872, the son of John D. and Mary Savage Wilcox. His early life was spent in Southern Utah. In 1896 he moved to Idaho and began homesteading in Sunnydell with his brothers. He married Sarah Peterson, June 9, 1920 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The couple made a home in Goshen, Idaho.

Mr. Wilcox was preceded in death by his wife, who died March 31, 1931. Following her death he moved with his family to Archer where he became engaged in dry farming. He was a veteran of World War I. He was active in the LDS Church, serving on the genealogy committee and participating in temple work. Mr. Wilcoox was a high priest at the time of his death.

Survivors include children, John Wilcox, Rexburg; Mrs. A. J. (Helen) Roberts, Blackfoot; and Mrs. Don (Esther) Fellows; Shelley; eight grandchildren; and brother and sisters. D.O. Wilcox Sr., and Mrs. Mary Liljenquist, Archer; and Mrs. Martha Hacking, Firth.

The body may be viewed at Nalder Funeral Home Tuesday [4 December 1956] afternoon until 7 p.m. It may be viewed at the Ezra Liljenquist home in Archer until time of services [Wednesday, 5 December 1956] at the LDS Chapel. Interment will be in the Goshen Cemetery under direction of Nalder Funeral Home.
