Daniel Righter, son of No.4 Michael and Catharine (Geiger) Righter, was born 1751, and died 1816. He married Phoebe Starne, daughter of Joseph Starne of Roxborough. She was born 2 October 1758, and died 10 June 1847, aged 88 years, 8 months, 8 days. They were buried in the Roxborough Burial Ground, and the dates were secured from their gravestones. Daniel was a weaver. He was listed as "journeyman weaver" in 1780 on the tax assessors' list for Roxborough Township, and thereafter as weaver. The Federal tax assesor for 1783 indicated that Daniel then lived on "widow Lake's est.," and owned 2 sheep. In 1787 he received 2 lots in the partition of his father's land, 27 acres, 135 perches all together, his lots including the site of the Pietist Community of 1694, on the one perch wide land, later called Hermit Lane. Location of his land was shown on Hills' Map of Philadelphia and Environs, 1809. In 1788 the tax assessor credited his with 27 acres and a dwelling worth 138 pounds. The dwelling is known to have been a log house, and was so described on the assessor's list of 1805, when he was also recorded as having a still. Between 1795 and 1798, he reduced his land holding to 18 acres, though no record of the deed was found in the period covered by this search. The assessor's list for 1808 gave his holding as 16 acres. On 20 January 1817, letters of administration were granted to John Righter and Jesse Righter to the estate of Daniel Righter, deceased. Joseph Starne of Roxborough Township, farmer, and Richard Roe were sureties for the $300 bond.[Administration Book L, 169#17,1817] Phoebe Starne Righter lived on in the log house until 1847. There s a photograph of this log house in the collection of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. After her death the surviving children sold the land.[Deed Book AWM-50,560 and Deed Book AWM-73,46] From these deeds the list of children of Daniel and Phoebe (Starne) Righter was obtained. Their children were:

John Righter.Jesse Righter,Joseph Righter,Catharine Righter,Sarah Righter and Susan Righter.
