Orean Neilson Burton 1914 ~ 2007 ST. GEORGE, UT- Our loving mother passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughters on May 17, 2007, in St. George, Utah. Orean was born July 28, 1914, in Washington, Utah to John T. and Ella Neilson, the third of eleven children. Orean married C.G. "Hy" Burton for time and all eternity in the St. George LDS Temple on June 20, 1935. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings and at 78 years of age, served a two year mission at the LDS Church Office Building in Salt Lake City. Orean spent her growing up years in the Washington Fields and St. George, attending Dixie High School, Dixie College and later in life attended classes at the University of Utah. She had a thirst for knowledge and was always taking classes even into her 90's. Orean and her husband lived in Salt Lake City while raising their children and then at age 80 she moved back to "The Red Hills of Dixie". She was a member of the Republican Women, Bonneville Dance Club, Ladies Literary Club, and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was proud of her pioneer heritage and organized the first Beacon Camp in Salt Lake City while also volunteering at the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum for 12 years. Because of her love of music she always sang in ward choirs, Singing Mothers, sang with the Symphony Singers led by Les Goats in her younger years and later volunteered at Symphony Hall for many years. She is survived by her one son, Robert (Kristine) Burton of Pleasanton, CA; and three daughters, Janet (Don) Fraser of Hurricane, UT; Susan (Steve) Holt of Washington, UT; Mary Ann (Lynn) Keller of St. George, UT; 18 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 36 great-grand-children, five step-great grandchildren; also three brothers, Shirl (Joy) Neilson, LaGrand (Yvonne) Neilson, Clayton (Betty Jo) Neilson; three sisters, Clara Krebs, Anna Tietjen, and Roberta deMik. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Ella Manwaring Larsen, Itha Tobler; two brothers, Glen Neilson, Carl Neilson; one son-in-law, William Frank Heath, Jr.; one grandchild, Christine Fraser; and one step-grandchild, Gregory Keller. Funeral services will be held Tues., May 22, 2007, at 12:00 noon, at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, UT. A visitation will be held Tuesday, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the mortuary, prior to services. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 S. Highland Dr., Salt Lake City, on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at 1:30 p.m., under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary 435-673-4221.
