John Righter, yeoman, purchased a tract of land in Lower Merion,
Philadelphia County, of Hannah Harrison, widow, May 28, 1763. Hannah Harrison
was the widow and Relict of Richard Harrison of Lower Merion, and one of the
daughters of Isaac Norris, Esq. of Philadelphia. The tract included 75 acres,
106 perches, and was bounded by other land of John Righter and land of Thomas
Whylie, Frederick Peking (Bicking), and John Roberts. This tract was part of
5,000 acres which the Proprietor, William Penn, in 1682, granted to William
Shardlow, who by will dated Feb. 2, 1704, devised all his lands to his sons-in-
law, Joseph Collins and John Wightman, their heirs and assigns. Joseph Collins
died, leaving five daughters. John Wightman died, leaving an only son, John
Wightman. And the said John Wightman, the Son, with the daughters and co-heirs
of said Joseph Collins, and the husbands of such as were married, sold 500 acres
of this land to Richard Harrison, Nov. 4, 1742. See Penna. Archives, Third
Series, Vol. X. p. 184. The "other land" of John Righter bordered on the
Schuylkill river and Daniel Lawrence's land. Same Vol. p. 27.
